Great thai food. Not fancy, no real ambiance and cash only. BUT......... New expanded menu that includes all your favorites and more. Soups, Noodle Soups, Noodle dishes, Veggie section, all good. I mentioned the lack of fancy, this place has the most unfancy presentation for a sit down, but I mean that in a very good way - it's the closest that comes to mind to being real 'homestyle' We had the Pad This, Boat noodle, Crispy pork, Tom Yum and larb, nom nom nom. Put away your high expectations, expect good food and service. You'll like it!

came here last night, I would say the service was poor. I guess it was because the close to closed. We order a bunch of stuff, they ended up getting our orders wrong. Tea too too long to boil? Total forgot our pad see ew. Messed up my order kay noodles. Kinda Dirty. In Most of restaurant, all they need is a buss buy to clean and provide the water. The owner is prob just new at this ? I can't complain it was raining and we just wanted our soup to be hot. not warm. I don't think its too much to ask for?

Briefly spoke with restaurant owner toward the end of our late lunch. She recently taken over the business no more than 2 weeks ago and she also pointed out the Yelp ratings had improved. So heres my firsthand experience at Hoy-Ka... We drove passed the plaza on our way here so we circled around as Hoy Ka is situated at the far end of the plaza, right next to this brown building. Its not easily visible from street view. Didnt have any problem with parking. I suppose the restaurant decor has a bit of Thai flare. They had straw weaved chairs, brown leather booths, woodened tables, and framed photos of Thailand. Then it made me wonder if they considered remodeling to attract more customers. (Sorry, im a huge HGTV fan) On to the food, I am happy with my orders! I had chicken tum yum soup and Chicken pad see ew. I didnt think the presentation wowed me (ok, too much CHOPPED tv) but the flavors were there. My tum yum soup was sour and spicy, the chicken was moist, and the mushrooms were chunky. The pad see ew had the char broil taste to it, the flavors were perfect. It wasnt overly sweetened, there were slight bitterness from the gai lan (green veggies), and i tasted some acidity. Everything i ordered was wonderful. They gave us complimentary sweet coconut milk with green noodle cold desert. I liked it a lot. Thank you. I agree with the owner, the food is good. We'll definitely return soon. Hopefully Hoy Ka will have a full house.

A mom and pops kind of place that serves most traditional Thai cuisine. They had one waiter, who was hustling back and forth to all the tables for a weeknight. I was hoping on their menu they had some type of tom yum noodles which is my favorite, although they had tom yum soup, they didn't have it with noodles, and I really wanted noodle soup. What they did have was the Thai Boat Noodles and Hoy-Ka Noodles, I decided I wanted to try out the Hoy-Ka Noodles with pork fixings. I ordered a mild bowl of Hoy-Ka Noodles, I think I should have ordered maybe a medium, it was pretty sweet, but I still managed to make the soup super spicy by adding green chills I got from the sausage appetizer which came with peanuts. Also for the sausage, nothing really special about it, it doesn't taste like Chinese sausage, more of a smoked taste. The Hoy-Ka Noodles had plenty of meats in it, when you order it, you get a choice of noodles, I went with the fat noodles, the bowl comes with pork balls, liver, bbq pork, pork cake and grounded pork. I thought it was excellent and adding the chili made it super spicy.

WHY DID SERVICE TAKE SO LONG?! I came here with a group of 8 on a Wednesday night for dinner and we were the only people there. After ordering, we probably waited a good 20-25 minutes for the food. I mean I know we were a big group, but how do you guys manage when the restaurant is full? It was literally just us there and the workers... Anyway I ordered the boat noodles, mild ($7.50). It used to be a lot spicier but maybe they toned it down because people couldn't handle it haha. I was expecting and hoping for a bit spicier but it was still good. The portions are pretty small even though I got a large. I was still hungry after eating it. Other people got curry, pad thai, drunken noodles and chow mien and they liked it. It used to be cash only but now you can use credit card if it's over $15. There's a parking lot so parking is easy.

Medium spicy here is so spicy! I definitely overestimated myself or underestimated them on my first visit here. My medium spicy drunken noodle was nearly inedible. I could feel the burn in my stomach as I was scarfing it down. Overlooking the spiciness, the dish can potentially be good. Basil flavor was a bit lacking tho (but then again, I couldn't taste much because my taste buds were numb). Other things I tried here are the boat noodle, hoy-ka noodle, roast duck noodle, and the mango sticky rice. The flavor of all the noodle broth is strong with a note of sweet and sour. Of the three noodles, the roast duck noodle was my favorite because of the meat. The meat was tender and flavorful. The broth is a little on the oily side probably due to the roast duck, but I didn't mind too much. I requested to have a mix of two noodles (clear glass noodle and flat rice noodle) since I couldn't decide. I prefer the flat rice noodle because it soaks up more flavor and has a better bite. The mango sticky rice was nothing out of the ordinary. There's plenty of parking in the lot and the last two times I came there was no wait. Service is friendly but could be slow at time.

Why, I had no idea that there was a Hoy-Ka Thai Noodle right here in Monterey Park. I've been to the one in Thai Town years ago, and though I very much enjoyed it, it just so happened that I never went again... yet the memory of it never left me. Thank goodness this restaurant is open late on a weekday! I was looking for a light dinner in the area, like pho, kind of late at night (around 10 pm), and I stumbled onto this place. Unless you know that the restaurant is in that plaza, it's very easy to miss. I got the small size thai boat noodle, which was only $3.95. From what a friend said, they raised the price from $3, but it's still pretty freakin' cheap to me! The large bowl is $5.50. You can choose from different types of noodles... I chose the thin rice noodles (like pho noodles). You can also choose your level of spiciness. I asked for mild, but I should have known to get even less spicy... Thai people just looooove spicy, and mild to them was still pretty freakin' spicy to me! enough to make my nose run. My friend Hanae was about to order spicy, but got warned by the waiter... She had never had thai boat noodle before, and at the end of the meal, she was so glad she lowered the spiciness level. It comes with beef balls, slices of beef, tripe... and I think also liver, but I asked for no liver. The broth is so flavorful, with some sweetness, (maybe a little sour?) and combined with the heat it's delicious. I slurped it all with no shame and used up a lot of tissues. Cheap, good food, good service, open late, don't have to drive to LA... awesome. See you again soooon! Oh yea, free wifi!

I got take out from this place. Ordered: Papaya Salad: Really good, amazing, and refreshing. I would get this again and again. Its healthy too!!! Crispy Pork Fried Rice: Just average. Fried rice with deep fried pork basically. Pork was crispy and fatty, but I expected more pork honestly. Drunken Noodles: I don't know what makes them drunken? But it was good. Would probably get takeout here again. It is cheap, fast, and convenient. Also, plenty of parking available.

This place is just okay. That's the theme for today's review. It was a spontaneous thing. I looked up a Thai place on Yelp that was close to where I was at the time, and this place came up, so we drove there. Got there at around 1PM. There was no one on the floor, other than two or three tables of customers. I waited for a few minutes for someone to come out and seat us, but no one did. So, I yelled to the back "HELLOOO" a few times until someone finally came out to greet us. There was one lady waiting on the entire floor. I guess that's okay if you only have two or three tables of customers, but that service probably won't cut it during busier hours. She was super nice, though, and accommodating. Other than me, no one in my family eats spicy foods, so I requested for everything to come without spiciness. For the first time ever, all the food actually didn't come out spicy (surprise!). My family has been to tons of places, where if you ask them to omit the peppers, they simply make it milder, which is displeasing. However, I want to extend a thank you to the chef for doing this for us. The food tasted all right. We ordered the Hoy-Ka noodle, pad see ew, and tom yum soup. The Hoy-Ka noodle was all right. Pad see ew was a little on the saltier end, and it looked darker than usual, probably from either darker soy sauce or more soy sauce than desired. The tom yum soup was okay. Everything was just okay. The food wasn't too costly. We fed 3 people for around 24$, which is just about okay. Not too expensive, but not dirt cheap either. However, I don't think I would pay 8$ / person for food that's just "okay" again.
(3)Mandy P.
The food is cheaper then other thai places in the area for the amount you get but I dont think its very fresh.
(2)Katrina Y.
A lazy day after thanksgiving didn't want to drive and decided to try this place via delivery. The menu does not come with alot of the traditional dishes such as fish and different kinds of rice dishes, but what stood out to me was the thai isaan sausages! A lot of places don't serve that anymore so I was pretty excited. The delivery time was estimated to be around 45 to an hour, however it came within 30 mins! I ordered the tom kha soup, thai beef salad, fried tofu and the isaan sausages. The soup was so sour, but SO good! Tofu was fried perfectly. Thai beef salad was seasoned with the perfect amount of flavor and the sausages were amazing. I would definitely reorder again.

Food here is really good. I can't stop eating their Chinese broccoli with crispy pork. I sometimes order 2 orders so I can eat it for lunch and dinner. The Thai staples are delicious as well ( pad see ew, pad thai, curry etc). Their egg rolls are crispy and juicy and their lunch specials come with 2 of those bad boys. Affordable, fast, good food. Can't ask for anything else.

Thai noodle soups have been in Monterey Park for a longest time. I'm pretty sure you can find them on the menu at places like noodle world or planet but they probably also get ordered very rarely cause they're not done very well cause there are too many dishes. Thank goodness for specialization. From their to go menu: (spelling errors retained for authenicity) "Where does Hoy-Ka Noodle Originated from? In a province of Thailand, Pitsanuloke, there was a well know noodle stand that served hot noodles alongside the Noon River. Thai people would travel there after a long day of work to escape in the soohting spices of the noodle soup's secret reipe. Patrons wood sit on wooden planks with thier legs dangling above the water as they enjoyed thier meal before ehading home. Hence the term Hoy (Dnaglign) Ka (legs) Noodle. We are now proud to bring this secret recipe from Thailand, across the world, to share with you today. We hope you enjoy it!" With any of the noodle soups you can pick thin rice noodles, thick or egg. I prefer thick rice noodles. You can alos get a small for $3.95 or a large for $7.95. PRO TIP: Get two smalls!! Two different flavors and you get more topings rather than more noodles. Also portions are not super big so don't expect to get stuffed. TOP NOODLE PICKS: BOAT NOODLE yelp.com/biz_photos/hoy-… Just look at that deep brooth color. That's pure goodness. Rich and flavorful. HOY-KA NOODLE yelp.com/biz_photos/hoy-… (sorry for the bad pick, will be back soon to fix) Choice of Pork (ground pork, BBQ pork, pork meatballs, pork loaf and pork liver) or Chicken (ground chicken, sliced chicken and fish balls) YEN TA FO (NOTE: No Small Size) - noodle with squid, fishballs, tofu, shrimp, shrimp and fermented soybean sauce. Comes out with a bright pink hue and a pungent sour feremented taste. This one might take some getting used to. They're also known for the CRIPSY PORK. You can get it with Chinese Brocolli or KA PRAO style stir fried with chili and basil. Option to get it over for $7.50 or just a plate full of it for $8.50 PRO TIP: Go for the entree and get a side of rice or split with a friend Thai food tends to have a harder time in Monterey Park because of the price point but this place is legit and definately deserves the support. It's tucked away in the back corner of the strip mall with Dean Sin World which has got to make it hard to find. But look for it, it's worth it. Note: Cash Only even though there is no sign up

I just came out from this place. I frequent here often but perhaps tonight will be my last. I love their food! I always order raw shrimp salad or papaya salad, so tonight I ordered the same. Half way eating I saw a piece of paper napkin soaked in the salad juice... I died right away. Told the owner so he took it to the kitchen then came out to me telling me it was from my table! What the ??????

My first time trying this place, really good food and prices. I love the Eastside, you cant find food and prices like this in the Westside.

Recently came back on a Friday night and the restaurant just didn't seem the same. It was empty and there was alot of new faces working. I'm thinking they may have had management change because the food was just on a different standard. I usually come here with my boyfriend because we love their food and especially for the portions they give and their prices. Everything used to be just right, but this time that we visited many things have changed. We usually order the same things, Thai Boat noodles, and Hoy-Ka Noodles, both large, with thick noodles, and medium spicy. When the brought up the noodles it seemed like it was a small size because we both left very hungry and unsatisfied. The amount of noodles they gave us seemed be just as much as they would with a small size. The flavor was still on point but for what we got at that price just didn't make it worth it anymore. For the owners of the restaurant, if you're reading this please consider having some quality control for your portions :(! If not i'll have to find another go-to place for Thai noodles.
(3)C C.
Overpriced... $10 for a soup noodle. The bowl looked big but only had very little meat. The soup based was too sour.
(1)Charles C.
The first few times we ate at the restaurant it was a great experience. We really liked the food a lot. This last week we ordered picke up to go crab fried rice and pad Thai. Eating the crab fried rice at home and found a little 6 legged thing in the food. Yuck! Gross! Thought it might have been seasoning. But nope full on insect. See my photos.
(2)Amy F.
I used to like Hoyka a lot, the taste and portion was just right. I haven't been here for 5 months and everything changed. The small noodle is about 1/3 less than usual, the soup was too salty. Would I come back? I don't think ao, I am very disappointed.
(1)brent k.
Used to love this place and went really downhill so I stopped going. Decided to give it another try because I saw it was under new owners. Glad I did because the soup was a lot better. Not as good as it was 5 years ago but pretty good. Will def come back again.
(4)Sandy K.
After working out down the street I was ready for some spicy carbs. The parking here is easy to find and it was just before lunch so I lucked out. As like most establishments prices have gone up due to raising costs and Hoy Ka has been effected also. I ordered the large Hoy Ka soup noodles and to my surprise the large seemed like the old small bowl in addition to the price increase. I ordered the medium spiciness and it was plenty spicy for me. There was a variety of meats and the soup was yummy. Hoy Ka Thai noodle is still one of the better places for authentic Thai soups outside of Thai Town so I'll keep coming back when I'm craving Thai soup.
(4)Karen C.
Wow, I had to be taken here by a friend to try this place. It's tucked away in the far back corner of the plaza, if it wasn't for the giant THAI food sign I would have never known where it was. If I come out to this plaza it's for the dumplings. XD This place is SUPER cheap, better than going to Carl's Jr. I had to get a bowl of their Hoy-Ka noodles (chicken) since it's their specialty. For such an inexpensive price they even let you customize the noodles I recommend that you try their ultra thin noodles, they are great for soaking up the broth so you get full spice flavor in each bite. Since it is cheap their bowl size is smaller, but that's fine because you just order another dish = more things to try! Service was excellent and the decor is surprisingly nice for such a tucked away spot. Since we had a later lunch, we didn't have to wait long for our food. It's large windows for natural lighting is comforting, even if it isn't the best barrier if a zombie horde came along.

My very first time at this location, but I think I prefer the original in Thai Town. The food might be the same, but I just feel the Thai Town locale has a better atmosphere. The walls here seem pretty bare, but I guess that shouldn't matter too much because the food is gooooood. This location might also be a little hard to find since it's at the back end of the small plaza. I always order the Boat Noodles or the Hoyka Noodles. You can't go wrong with either choice. I'm a huge fan of Thai noodle soups and I prefer them over noodle soups from any other culture. If you haven't had Thai noodle soups before, you have no idea what you're missing. ;)
(4)Mindy H.
I really enjoyed the food here! Omagah! if you weren't so far away! The thai boat noodle was so flavorful! Papaya salad and the pork ribs are yummy too! Haven't tried the whole menu yet. Think I have to come up with an excuse as to why I am driving 40 minutes away for thai food. See you soon!

i believe this is the first time having boat noodles.. it was really good i prefer it over pho.. only thing is that we got extra spicy and it was not .. no ac either.. they had a fan.. had the hoy ka noodles.. that was good too.. and i also enjoyed the thai iced coffee.. would def come back.. no wait.. we were the only ones there..
(3)Jennifer H.
Had to check this place out since many reviewers said it was cheap and good. Sadly the price changed when we were there. It took my boyfriend and I a while to find this place since it was hidden in the corner of this plaza. We got there around dinner time, and there weren't that many people. There were only 4 tables taken including ours, we were kind of sad about it. Ordered: (CASH ONLY) Hoy Ka Noodle - pork w/ pho noodle (around $6) Boat Noodle - w/ flat noodle (around $6) Both were mild spicy. Both tasted okay. The broth was a bit too sugary, and the mild tasted more than a mild. There was barely anyone working there other than the cashier lady. Minus stars starts here...the tables weren't clean. We could see the grease still on the table. including their metal spoons. had some funky smell when we tried to clean them with some water. At least we didn't get a stomach-ache after! what an experience..won't come back again though. not unless it gets cleaner.

Ordered delivery of 4 items a couple weeks ago. They show up with only 2 of the 4 items and drive off before i could stop him. Luckily the deliverer called me when he was at the door so i had his number logged. Called him back at least 5 times with no answer. So i called the restaurant 3 times also and they finally answer. I tell them on the phone what happened and he says. 'Oh...uh....sorry about that........::silence::'. So i ask him to deliver the remanding items back to my house. His response was 'oh um....next time you come in how about you get that item for free instead?' UM what? You mean the items i already paid for that i didn't receive?. I've never left a review before but this restaurant was so ridiculous i had to. They eventually delivered the rest of the food but by that time my food was already cold and soggy. Terrible service. Hire someone that actually knows how to manage please.

So sad to update my negative experience. This was one of my fav hole in the wall noodle places. Every dish I had here used to be good. Completely balanced flavors. Last night I ordered the tom yum seafood soup. It came out tomatoey.. and no lime or lemongrass flavor at all. I had to ask for lime juice to add to the soup. It also tasted like they poured 2 cups of salt in the soup. It was really inedible. The same came out with the ground chicken and basil. I love Salty foods but this was ridiculous. I asked the server if they changed chefs, and he said it's a new owner. So sorry to say that I will not be coming to the SGV to get my Noodle fix. I now have to make the trek to Thai town. =( The get 2 stars because they seemed nice. I hope the kitchen can figure this out.

I have ordered my food online through Eat24 and it goes directly to Hoy-Ka Thai Noodle. I have never experienced any problems... until today. I ordered at 11:10am and waited till 12:15pm contact Eat24 to see if there was an issue with my online order so they ended up contacting the restaurant and told Eat24 that it will arrive in a few minutes. So, I waited till 12:45pm and I decided to contact the restaurant myself... They didn't even make the order yet and they still told me it will take 20 minutes and they will throw in a free Thai iced tea... It is currently 1:11pm and I have not received any food.. Really... Take over 2 damn hours to deliver a simple order of Pad See Eew and Crab Fried Rice... This was so disappointing........... New management *applause*! Will update this review once I receive the food. Food finally arrived at 1:29pm... Took 2 hours & 20 minutes to get my food and I did not receive a Thai Iced Tea for waiting over 2 hours. Seriously... F*** this place.
(1)Kelly K.
I got the food delivered, ordered through yelp. Food came fairly quick, 40 min? All I can review is the food quality. i ordered drunken noodle and a la carte sweet and sour pork. I ordered drunken noodle for medium spicy, I love spicy food but it turned out spicier than most other places, which I didnt mind at all. Also the sweet and sour pork. Very common flavor, nothing special but for sure VERY YUMMY. A la carte order is good for you if you got rice at home or ordering fried rice with it.

WARNING: CASH ONLY!!!! Not sure why Hoy-Ka doesn't advertise this very important information Hooray for not having to drive to Thai Town for Hoy-Ka's amazing Boat Noodle Soup! And this location is a lot bigger and brighter than the original in Hollywood. Yes, it's kind of hidden in the back of a small plaza, but at least there is a decent amount of free parking in the shared parking lot. Hoy-Ka has a couple of long tables that can seat up to 8 people and a few other tables that can seat 2-6 people along the perimeter of the restaurant. The service was friendly, patient, and the food came out at a decent pace. We didn't everything at once, but since we were sharing family style, it was OK. I think it would be an issue if everyone was just eating their own dish. We ordered pad thai, green curry, boat noodle soup, rad na, and larb. I really enjoyed the boat noodle and thought the larb was pretty good. The curry was watery, but still flavorful. Rad na came out looking completely different than what I was used to. First of all, when it came out in a bowl, I thought it was the curry. Nope, they just had watery gravy and you could totally use the ladle to scoop up the gravy onto your other food. One thing I didn't like was that rice was extra. I think it was $1.50 for a small bowl and $3 for a large container. That's kind of a ripoff for rice. They should just include rice with the curry for free or charge less.
(4)Thanika P.
It might be under new management again, the 3rd time since it was opened in this location!. I noticed it from the boat noodle soup. The broth got changed. It's thicker, less salty, a bit oily. However I am still ok with it because I don't like it salty as last time. I ordered the dry seafood flat noodle for my husband, it's good though. Red crushed pepper hidden under the white mushroom, blend well with the ground peanut and sugar. We arrived there around 1:30. The service need improvement. We had to make eye contact to the staff or wave hand to get attention from them.

All I can say is, "Wow!" I came here with a couple of friends after our dinner at Farm Cuisine was somewhat of a disaster. They ordered Chicken Drunken Noodles to share and asked for "Mild." I decided to try their Hoy-Ka Noodle Soup with glass noodles (which I hope is mung bean vermicelli since I'm trying to cut down on my simple carb intake). When the Drunken Noodles was served, the aroma was so strong and so unctuous, that I could have grabbed the plate and wolfed the whole thing down. But since it's my friends' dish, I tried a couple of bites and love it. Oh, the flavor from the wok stir-fry was nice and robust, a great sign that it was cooked well and at the right temperature. My Noodle Soup was rich and tasty as well. And both dishes were quite spicy (I ordered mine medium), but it was a good burn. Didn't need to down a whole pitcher of ice water (even though this would have worsen the burn rather than to rectify it). My friends agreed that the food was much tastier and better cooked at this location, while the original location in Hollywood has a better ambiance, better service, and was not as spicy. Regardless, I'm a fan of both locations now. I'm just stoked to have learned only a month ago that this 2nd location is so much closer to home.

The BF and I stumbled upon Hoy-Ka for a late dinner last night. I decided to wander off my usual pad thai order as I was craving something warm and soupy. I ordered the duck noodle soup with thin noodles (noodle choice suggestion from the waitress), and the BF ordered the Hoy-Ka with pork. My duck soup wasn't bad, just a bit too salty for my liking. The duck was cooked well. I ordered it "spicy", but it tasted like mild. I preferred the Hoy-Ka soup over my dish. It had a nice array of toppings and meat, and I liked the broth. BF ordered medium spicy, but it didn't taste like anything was in it. Maybe my spicy tolerance and stomach of steal was kicking it bc It could have used more kick. We also ordered the fried tofu - it was cooked really well. I would come back and and try out their other dishes. They have free wi-fi!

Thanks to Lisa A. I found my favorite Thai restaurant in SGV area tonight! This hole in the wall place has excellent BBQ pork dish and Pad Se Ew. The crispy pork was on the dry side and I don't see myself ordering this dish again. From what I hear, they are known for their Hoy Ka noodles. I'll be back to try this noodle soup next time! Service is slow and I'd give it 1 star. My friend had to walk up to the front to ask for our check and a to go box. Not to mention it was very hard to flag a server for refills on our water. Don't expect much service here. Come here for the food. I was so happy and hungry to see my food that I forgot to take much pictures. It happens, right? =)

So it's cold outside, the only thing on my mind is a nice hot bowl of noodle soup. Spicy Thai boat noodles? Sounds like it would hit the spot right at that time. Normally, you'd have to make a trip out to Thai Town or something to get some authentic Thai food. But fear no more[of the horrid 101 freeway traffic], it's Hoy-Ka to the rescue! This place does not really deserve a 5 star, but at the same time it does. Really thought long and hard about how I should rate this place. So here goes... The service is on point. Thai people offers the best service hands down(No pun intended you dirty minded people). I mean among Asians, you really don't get this kind of service without paying for it(ie expensive Japanese places). At Some Asian places can't even buy good service(ie expensive Chinese places haha). Anyway, we know the service is good. The food, I ordered the Boat noodle and the Hoy-Ka noodle as main course. And an entree of crispy pork with chinese greens as appetizer. -The Hoy-Ka noodle is a spicy noodle soup with a lighter broth, and topped off with some grounded peanuts. For some reason, the grounded peanuts made this bowl of soup really authentic to me. When I think Thai food, the flavors of peanuts, basil, coconut, and lemon grass(tom yum). -The Boat noodle was spicy, lots of flavor, and a bunch of assorted meats. The low point for me of this entire experience is this. I know Thai food is usually a bit sweet, but this was a little too sweet for my liking. Never the less, I finished the noodles. Didn't love it, but it wasn't bad at all. -The crispy pork with chinese greens came out super quick. Pretty sure they had it ready to go. The flavor was on point. The crispy pork was nice and crispy. The chinese greens weren't over cook. I asked for spicy, and it was just the perfect amount of spice and flavor. Loved this dish. It was as good as the one I had in Thai town, except less spicy. Sorry I can't hang with real Thais. Overall, this place is great. Bang for the buck value(unlike other Thai places), good service, authentic flavors, and it's probably one of the best in the 626. And for that reason, I am giving them a 5 star review.
(5)Chris L.
Hoy Ka. Named the same as the place in Hollywood. Cleaner, more updated decor. Boat noodles are alright. I feel the one in Hollywood is better. But... HOLY CRAB FRIED RICE BATMAN! I don't know if it's authentic, but I LOVE it nonetheless. Whatever it's supposed to taste like, now it has to compare to this place's.

I came here with my cousin who was visiting from out of town. It was our first time trying this place. We went on a weeknight and the place was pretty empty. I ordered the pad see ew and my cousin ordered the papaya salad. My pad see ew was pretty good but my cousin said her papaya salad was too spicy. The "water" had a hint of thai tea taste to it...not sure if it's supposed to be like that or if it was by accident, haha. This place is family owned and the prices are decent. Not bad for a Thai place in the area.

First time I bumped into this place was in 2013 of January. Came to visit LA and was craving for noodles and I yelped the nearest place with noodles. This place popped up, saw the picture of the noodles so why not? Noodles here are good! I finished the noodles and the bowl of soup. I rarely drink my soup if I run out of noodles. My favorite here is the pork hoy ka noodles extra spicey with the thick white noodle(ho fun, they don't don't this term. Have to specify thick white noodle!) without the liver I also like the Thai boat noodles. I get this bowl of soup with the thin white noodles (pho, vermicelli noodles. Have to specify thin white noodles). Also spicey without the liver. I use to come here regularly because I love the noodles and I can't find anything like home(Oakland) and this is the closest replica I can find down here in SoCal. After eating a while I noticed the amount of msg is put into the bowl of soup. I get super thirsty and super lethargic. It's still delicious but only going to consume it not so regularly due to the health risk lol. The service here also really really suck! Everytime when I am seated it takes about 5-10 minutes to take my order even when I'm the only person in the resturaunt. Also takes a long time for the me to get the cheapest thing on the menu, water. All in all the noodles are good, bad service and too much msg. Will still come if I keep up with my cardio. If you're not in a rush and have 2 hours to spare for a bowl of noodles than come. If not try else where. Noodles will not disappoint.

Oh what an adventure! This place is impossible to find! Google Maps, You suck! I hate you! Anywho, after 15 mins of wandering the street of MP, we finally arrived! Woohoo! It was around 6ish and we were the only customers in the restaurant. We sat in the back booth and my advice is, DON'T SIT THERE, unless you like to get rained on! The ceiling was leaking and water or some type of sticky liquidy stuff was dripping down...ewww! I didn't noticed till we left. My purse was all wet =( Now on to the food... We ordered a Small Fish Ball Noodle Soup ($3.50) and a Large Hoy-Ka Chicken Noodle Soup ($5.50). I've read reviews mentioning that their spice is "not to be messed with" so I went with no spicy. The fish ball noodle soup came with 3 fish balls (extra chewy and "bouncy"), lettuce, and bean sprouts. The Hoy-Ka Chicken was pretty similar. Besides fishballs, it had slices of fish cake, pieces of chicken breast and ground chicken. Both were delish! The broth was very flavorful and tasty. I'll have to order the large next time because the small was tiny and it only tickled my belly. Besides soup noodles, they have other items on the menu...dry noodles, rice dishes, appetizers, salads, etc. I'll definitely come back to try the other items. I'm glad to have discovered this place because now I don't have to drive all the way to Thai town, YES! Friendly service and Cash Only!

this place is a gem! so so cheap for good food! three word, thai boat noodles! i love that they let you order a mini portion. leaves room for me to order a 2nd dish (i love my variety). best part, everything comes out truly spicy! i was hissing and hussing throughtout the meal. pros: -cheap -lots of selection -truly good authentic food -private parking lot -spacious seating -quick cons: -NONE

It was so cold & I needed something to warm me up. I've been wanting to come back to try their Hoy-Ka noodle soup. So I made #2 Son take Mummy out to dinner. As much as I loved the Thai Boat Noodles on my first visit, the Hoy-Ka was even better! Sissy me asked for "very mild" like before, but still broke out into a sweat and got teary eyed. #2 Son: "Ma, are you crying?! Stop eating that!" I couldn't. The broth was so good. I loved everything that was in that bowl. #2 Son (aka Spice Boy) was in his element. He ordered the Garlic Rice & Beef plate with a fried egg on top. I couldn't believe this guy. Just for the sake of trying it, he liberally added on the chili sauce, chili powder and chili peppers onto his dish. Ate everything on his plate down to the very last grain of rice. (And, some of the goodies in my soup) Loved it. He can't wait to come back here and work his way through the menu. We were a sorry pair on the drive home. I was still breathing heavy & crying. And my lips were tingling. He was all giddy from the spices and let out some spectacular chili-laced burps. (Which made me tear up even more) Yup. This is our new home for Thai food.

I was expecting pho size large when I ordered the large, but I got a large bowl without about as much food as a small order of pho. My bf left hungry. The food is pretty tasty, though. The pad thai and thai iced tea were standard tasting. They weren't gross, but they weren't the best we've had. The Hoy-Ka, however, was something worth coming for. The broth is unique. It is spicy and sweet. It compliments the noodles, well. I got it with the thin noodles which are nice and chewy. I also got it with the chicken. The chicken breast strips were lean and dry, but the ground chicken, was surprisingly a good compliment with the broth. I also thought the condiments they had to the side were interesting. They had something that looked like miso, but tasted like spicy lime. The waitress spoke with a heavy accent, so listen carefully.

I was ecstatic to see this place offered a Laos cuisine in addition to Thai. Laotian food is closer to my native tongue. However, every time I have ordered sticky rice, it has been kind of hard. They don't seem to make it fresh daily and probably re use old sticky rice. The Pa Dek they use in their Laos style papaya smells and tastes a bit strange to me. I don't prefer it. So... there goes my Laos food. I'll have to try the Kaopiek and see if that is any good. I wish they offered Kaopoon. I will have to come back and try just their Thai food from now on.

When I heard that there was a newish Lao restaurant in LA I couldn't wait to travel to 626 and try out this cuisine myself from the new owners/ chief who are from Laos! As you get off the 10 hwy, FYI look out for # 230 and a big white/ red sign that says "HOY-KA", you have to drive all the way towards the back/ end of the strip mall where the restaurant is located, and there's parking available when we went on a Sunday evening. They have a really large menu, from your traditional Thai dishes like Tom Yum soup, pad see eww, pad thai, boat noodles etc, to tons of Lao dishes I have never heard of that I'm already excited to go back and try some more. First off, we shared the Lao sausage for appetizers, I enjoyed the spices of it. It was tasty, and not overly greasy which I was happy about. I was totally eyeing their Larb and Naam Tok Thai steak salad for next time, haha! For our main dishes, we shared the Lao Pho, it was awesome they had 4 different styles of noodles to choose from (angel noodle, egg noodle, pho noodles, or the thick rice noodles) we picked pork as our meat base with Angel noodles. The Lao Pho broth was amazingly delicious, it was full of flavor and SPICE, it felt like we can forever keep eating with the seemingly endless noodles and meat in the bowl. They are definitely not skimpy with their amount and are heavy handed with their spices ;) I can usually handle medium spice at a restaurant, but mild has definitely got me SWEATING. I'm usually a hot sauce girl and I didn't even have the opportunity to taste out their variety of spices on their dining table. We also shared a steamed chicken dish, that came with a chicken broth rice wit an AMAZING AMAZING home made hot sauce. It was dangerously spicy but you could taste the freshness from it. I can't wait to go back and try out their other dishes. As I'm wrapping up my dinner with my friend, I see the Fung Brothers walk in! They are legit and they know where are hot foodie spots in the 626, so I must have picked a dope Lao restaurant in SoCal to go to! I'm so glad there's another group of Asians representing their homeland and cuisines and sharing it at 626!

I am sad to report this store is out of business. I saw the new store in it's place this evening when I walked by. I'll miss you!

I love the food here. Great prices. I love the Hoy Ka Noodle. You need to try the fried pork skin and green bean dish. I forgot the name but it is amazing. I mean c'mon it's fried pork skin, what's not to like?

Delicious food! I had the Pad See Ew and khao BBQ pork dish. Red sauce was unexpectedly tasty.

Since I had/have severe morning sickness during my pregnancy, my stomach has significantly shrank. I eat half a croissant and I feel super full. I usually can't finish my entrees now. Well, Hoy Ka has dramatically reduced their portions so much so that my half stomach didn't get full after a bowl of their Hoy Ka noodles. Hubby ordered me another portion of noodles, but it came in diluted soup, which watered down my original bowl of soup. I lost my appetite after that. Disclaimer: I only eat the noodles since I have an aversion to most meat. :( Also, the Hoy Ka noodles tasted significantly different and looked different. I liked their crab rice which had a good flavor, but not sure if that will remain the same. I don't think i'll go back to Hoy Ka anymore.

I just got the WORST Thai food I've ever had in my life delivered to me from here. Liquid was filled on the bottom of the bag my entree came in (see photo). Every container was covered in grease so it was difficult to open anything & I was afraid to get slime all over my coffee table. My stir-fried veggies were supposed to have mushrooms in it....there were NO mushrooms but loads of slimy cabbage which was not on the list of veggies that were supposed to be in it. Completely overcooked, bitter, inedible veggies that I just paid $10 for including the white rice which is $1.50! Yellow curry tastes muggy like it was scraped up from a burned batch & has no coconut or spice flavor at all. EAT ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE!!

Ever time I'm craving pad Thai close to my house, I'll come here, besides my boyfriend's mom's Thai restaurant which is a bit further. All of their dishes are seriously and deliciously authentic here. I've been coming here every now and then for about 2 years, and I believe recently they have a new management, but same restaurant name of course. Service is excellent! Very sweet and welcoming atmosphere and servers. They have this new thing where they give you water upon request in respect of our current California drought situation, which I really appreciate! Their coconut syrup drink that comes in the bottle is so bomb diggaty!! Another of my favorites is the Tom kha, which is the sour, sweet coconut milk soup that comes in those cool pots with the fire shooting up from the middle of the pot :D anyways, I'd definitely recommend people to come here to eat. I personally think it's affordable and going in groups can be good, too! Because if you're all doing family style, you can all share and try lots of different and yummy food :) Check out the foods I ordered from today and yesterday!

We've been ordering takeout from here lately because the place down the street from us was not treating us as well. We love the pad thai here, full of flavor, and really good even for a takeout meal. Delivery guy is always nice. Food always comes in a reasonable amount of time.
(5)Alexandria S.
OK first time customer, and because I'm newly car-less I went the delivery route..... Took an hour, but i m soooooo surprised they actually made it out to me, let's just say dominos is pretty much the only thing that makes it out to me.... Downloaded eat24 at the recommendation of another yelper Got me in contact with them and a few others, awesome-sauce! Taste is there Price is there Friendly delivery staff & the young guy that answered the phone.... When I just made sure the app was legit, and they got my order... He was cool and assured me it was on its was...... I was a tad skeptic, but it got to me maybe 15 min later Haha I think next time I'll try and dine in

Located in what seems to be a dying strip mall on Garfield (just before or after Garvey depending on which way you're heading) just nestled in the back corner is this little jewel of a place. It's an unassuming building that feels like it's been there for a while and has seen slightly better days. But, beyond what they lack in decor, they make up for in their food. Their Hoy Ka noodles with a the clear beef broth, bbq pork and ground pork are slyly amazing. A broth so simple yet with so many layers. I am a noodle lover and I love these noodles. I've also had their Thai boat noodles and am unable to fully give a description that would be worthy of what it is and how it taste. The broth for this noodle is rich and complex and stands on its own... But when coupled with the noodles and the offal that you get in the bowl, the complimentary flavors manage to marry a authentic taste that doesn't feel like it should come out of that kitchen. Noodles are a comfort food that sooth my souls and Hoy Ka is one of my favorite places to go. You should give if a try if you're in the area and make a trip if you're not.

I've been to the Hoy Ka in Hollywood and I love it there, I thought it would be the same but it's completely different. I was really excited when I first looked at the menu because there was Laos food on there. But it wasn't as good as I thought :( the papaya salad was pretty bland, they didn't ask us if we wanted it spicy or anything so it came out plain. We got the larb which was ok but again they didn't put any pepper in there at all, the lad na looked really good but the flavor was kinda weird. Lastly I had the Kow piek and that was ok as well, the broth was a little bland. The place is really hidden in the back so make sure to keep your eyes open for it. But there is a lot of parking!

I was driving on Garvey when I saw their huge Laos and Thai logo. Being a foodie, I knew I had to check this place out. Great Thai and Laos option for people from LA! The key is to know what items are their specialty. They make the standard fast food Thai options (pad see ew and pad thai). These options are good (better than many LA Thai fast food places) but not glorious. What you need to try is their CURRY. ROASTED DUCK CURRY ($11), hands down AMAZING quality. Satisfied my curry craving and left me wanting MORE! Their service is a bit slow during dinner (only one server) but the service was excellent and the food on point. I highly recommend for the more unique dishes like the duck curry and crispy pork.

Came here yesterday with the girlfriends. It is a very easy place to miss cause its all the way deep inside the plaza with a sign you can barely read from the streets. I been wanting to come here for the Thai Boat Noodle. It was good. I meat and liver were not over cooked like other places. The only issue I had was the veggies were too raw and the soup was not hot enough. We also ordered the pork jerky which was okay nothing special. Their laos sausage was not good, do not order it. Their Pad Thai wasnt bad and their Pineapple fried rice was good except it had raisins. This place is a mix between thai and lao cuisine. It was sad that the place is so empty. But I definitely would come back for the Thai Boat Noodle !
(4)Drew Q.
Food was good. But prices were great. We had the pad Thai, pad see ew, Tom yum soup, papaya salad, Angel wings, pineapple fried rice and Thai iced tea. Their spice level is a bit high. Though we told them mild for the papaya salad and soup it was still too hot for a member of our group. The pad Thai, pad see ew and pineapple fried rice were good. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but I wouldn't mind coming back.

Excellent service, pretty decent food available even late into the night! I got the pad Thai, with extra lime and the gentleman working humoured me with a BUNCH of lime. Love it!!

Last time I came, I ordered a big bowl of hoy ka noodle. I finished them pretty quick and left without feeling food coma. But when I ordered similar dish at Tantawan Thai Restaurant in Rosemead. I couldn't even finish all the noodle. I have been coming here since they opened, years ago. I've noticed that the portion has been reduced, and the price has drastically increased. A "big" bowl of noodle here with tip cost about $10-11. I think it's overpriced! The soup bases are not even that good. I know many Thai people that they stop coming to hoy ka but go to tantawan instead. The only reason I would dine in here is because I am too lazy to drive to tantawan or to Hollywood since gas price is going up too.

The food is as good as you can get and as authentic as you can get in the whole 626 area, I mean, if you want boat noodles. The only other option is go drive all the way to Thai town. But you don't need to and don't have to while you have this restaurant around. We ordered a variety of food today and it didn't disappoint at all. We have papaya salad, which is fresh and very diet friendly for those want to get a Asian salad with NO oil. The Boat noodles are tasty yet you know they put good ingredients in the bowl with hearty yet no oil kind of soup. I am a ramen girl but after having so much fatty pork soup (which the layer of oil can be inch thick), it's nice to have a change for once. The angel wings are to "fly(die)" for, and the curry is big and full of great veggies and meat. You know some places give you lots of sauce with no real stuff inside, not here! I had a great to go meal today and I tried to eat out less these days and stick to healthy meals. This is our kind of HAPPY MEAL! Feeling thankful this place is still around.

I'm sad that I have to break up with this place for good. After giving them so many chances, but tonight was just the last straw for me. I live exactly 2.3 miles from there (per Google Maps) and decided to try ordering delivery. Yelp's integration of delivery.com made it super easy ordering boat noodle, duck noodle, and crispy pork with Chinese broccoli. The total came to $20.35. I decided to call and order instead because I'm sure delivery.com charges the restaurant a percentage for every order and as a supporter of small biz, I didn't want them to incur any fees. To keep this short, my total when the deliver guy arrived was $27.75 (so much for supporting small biz when they overcharge you compared to online prices) and no, they did not tack on an additional $7 for just delivery. Also, my order arrived 1 hour and 30 mins after the phone call (I called at 7:43pm and it arrived at 9:10pm). I even called the restaurant to make sure the delivery guy had my number just in case he was lost. (Yes, he had my number.) What did it for me was that both soups for the noodles were not secured in the styrofoam container. Instead, half the soup was in the plastic bag (see photos). How does that happen? I'm quitting you Hoy-Ka. It's a bad break-up, no closure needed.
(1)Brian P.
It's kinda disappointing to not see many customers at this place. Definitely a great local spot for Thai food. The menu is short but covers all well known Thai and Laos dishes. I've frequented this place quite often and the quality has been outstanding. Pricing is affordable just like every other Asian places around the area. So next time you crave some Thai food, stop by Hoy Ka! Places like these are hard to come across in the 626.
(5)Candace L.
I wish I can give this place a 4.. I would have a couple months back but I think it's slowly going down the drain. :( The only dish I come back for is the Thai Boat Noodles. It's just so tasty.... the soup is rich and when you ask for spicy.. it's spicy! It's like one of the perfect hangover cures you can ask for haha. I usually just order for pick-up and portion size is always good. I do have to say that the price went up a little... I think to try and make up for the slow business? But I had to give this place a 3 star.. mainly because of how run-down this place is. I have nothing against mom & pop shops.. and maybe it's due to the location but it seems that the restaurant itself is slowly dying. I went here last Saturday and it was basically empty and the ac was off or broken.. not sure. I think if they just fixed up it up a little more and knew how to promote this place they would definitely have better business since the food is actually pretty good!
(3)Vath L.
Was craving Thai Boat Noodles... but TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED. Not sure, IF NEW owners, Management, or just the Kitchen (Cook); but it was HORRIBLE. Lack of flavor, I was used from before. Old meat (beef). Bad quality of meat, like it's the leftover scraps. Totally wrong ingredients, ex. Chinese broccoli; when NORMALLY it's Celery which compliments the soup. Just cause of this experience, I will NEVER be coming back.
(1)Debbie O.
I'm so upset at this location. I've loved Hoy-Ka since the beginning, but they recently added Lao menu items, and I was naive enough to stray from my usual Hoy Ka soup and order the chicken udon. If you like food with flavor, just don't do it. The chicken udon ($7) was the worst noodle soup dish I've ever had in my life - and I LOVE soupy noodle dishes. Chicken was super thin with the SKIN still on, the soup was absolutely bland and the thick udon noodles were mushed altogether and were flavorless. Everything about this dish was difficult to consume. I asked our server to bring some of the Hoy Ka soup so I can at least have some flavor in the dish, and he was trying to justify how Lao dishes are very different from the authentic Hoy Ka soups. Well, here's a thought: if you've built your restaurant around these popular, strong Thai flavors, why the hell would you add these bland menu items that your customers aren't accustomed to? I expected flavorful Southeast Asian food when I go to Hoy Ka, and I felt totally cheated on my last visit. I'm hurt, Hoy Ka, and I won't be visiting you for a while.
(2)Sheila S.
I've ordered from Hoy Ka quite often, each time more disappointing than the last. Delivery time is always over an hour, even when I lived much closer to the restaurant. One time, the driver couldn't find my place and I walked out to find him about 4 houses over. The heck? See though, I don't mind waiting, IF they try to communicate. When I order on Eat24, the wait time estimate is 25 - 40 min. If it's going to be more than an hour, at least give us a call and tell us that so we're not left wondering where the hell our food is. I put up with it before because even though delivery always takes forever, the food is quite good; but the last time I ordered, it was horrible. Ordered crispy pork fried rice and it wasn't crispy. It was basically chunks of hard fat that's not even chewable. Yeah, won't be ordering from this place again.
(2)Angie C.
First time delivery and the pad Thai and drunken noodles were spot on. Large shrimp cooked perfectly and lots of flavor in the pad Thai. My husband loves the Drunken Noodles and we'll definitely be ordering delivery again. Only from here!
(5)Lance H.
Don't order the Nam Khao Lao (crispy fried rice with sour pork/fermented sausage) - they use the vietnamese sweet sausage instead so it completely throws off all of the flavor. May give them another try but I'll Be sure to ask which kind of sausage they're putting in it.. Felt kind of ripped off. Make sure you always order mild because even medium is very spicy for some. Portions are decent.
(2)Jenny B.
This place doesn't even deserve to have HOY KA on their name, because this just ruined the whole greatness of original Hoy Ka in Hollywood Thai Town. First of all, when we went there, the place was pretty empty, so we figured the service shouldn't be too bad. My goodness was I wrong. Let's keep going to the food review first. We ordered: No. 19 Hoy Ka Noodle - blech, no taste and the soup level was just too much, the ingredients doesn't even fit to be called a Hoy Ka No. 20 Boat Noodle (2 bowls - 1 beef and 1 pork) - you would think when you saw the dark colored broth, oh okay, it should be fine. NOPE, just like the no. 19, the soup was so bland for boat noodles and all the ingredients that came with it was poorly flavored, I mean the meat has NO taste at all, imagine that! Crispy Pork Belly with Chinese Broccoli over rice - again, the pork belly has no taste and they came with NO rice. Seriously, we were the ONLY customer there, they made this simple mistake? Boy... don't get me started. Now the food was disappointing right? Okay, comes to the service, we have to call the waiter 2-3x to get his attention because the waiter and the woman behind the counter was busy playing with their cell phones. Aiyayay, IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE REALLY GOOD THAI FOOD, DON'T EVER COME HERE!!! This place will ruin your image on how good the Thai food should be, Hoy Ka should NEVER allowed their name to be put here.
(1)Kato Paul W.
ok, this is the 3rd visit. I always get basil crispy pork (pad kra pao moo grob). don't know what had happened the last visit. the pork was soft and not crispy at all. the reason I liked it so much 1st and 2nd time because the pork was fried until crispy. so it was a big disappointment. the waitress did good at her job. she asked if everything was ok, well i lied to her. didn't tell her about how I was not happy with the dish this time around. liked the thai music video on the tv screen, something to entertain me while waiting for the food. the price on fried eggs was reasonable this time.

I am actually sad that I have to update my review... So I've been coming here fairly regularly over the last 2 years or so. In more recent times however, I have noticed a lot of changes. Menu changes, decor changes, etc. I am sure the original owner when I first fell in love with this place is long gone. I do not recognize any of the staff anymore. Really, all of this is OK, as long as the food and prices remained the same... Today however, it has come too far. The prices have been slowly increasing, not a big deal I originally though. Today though, the small hoyka noodle is $5 and the large bowl is $8. 2 years ago is was $3 for the small and $5 for the large, pretty steep increase! There used to be 3 spicy levels above non-spicy. There was mild, medium and hot. I never dared to venture to hot land before. Medium was my favorite, great spice level with a ton of flavor. I would have to stop several times through my meal to finish it though. The mild level was perfect, good taste but I could power through the whole bowl without needing a break. Today, I ordered the medium spicy and can tell they have definitely shifted to a more American spicy rating. The medium spicy is now much less spicy than the previous mild. I had to add a ton of chili on my own and still does not resemble the right balance between spicy and flavorful like it used to. This saddens me, a Thai place that is not spicy, probably isn't a really good Thai place... Sadly, the events of my experience today reflect the steady declination of this place in quality. Albeit service isn't bad or anything, but its not as cheerful and friendly as it used to be either. The food just doesn't quite hit the spot, or anywhere even close to the spot for that matter. I just cannot accept to pay twice as much for something thats half as good and without the exceptional service that I used to receive here.

I'm not sure if this Hoy-Ka location has any relation to the Thai town location. If it does, then this is a really disappointing second location. If there's no relation, then this is a really bad knock-off. Located in a fairly empty plaza, this restaurant had only 2 tables when I showed up for lunch on Sunday. There was only one waiter to take orders, bring drinks and dishes, refill, and give you the bill. Even though the place was far from busy, the one guy that ran the whole place was moving non-stop to accommodate everyone. Food-wise, the flavors just aren't there. Everything was on the super sweet side. The Hoy-Ka soup noodle was sweet, the pad-thai was sweet, the yellow curry was sweet. The only thing we ordered that wasn't sweet was the grilled pork appetizer. I thought thai food was suppose to be spicy, but this place was far from spicy. Overall, there's much better thai food in this part of town. I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. Such a huge disappointment. Parking: Huge lot for the entire plaza.

I decided to order from Hoy-Ka because I saw they were less expensive than my go-to Thai delivery place. I ordered the pork jerky appetizer, yellow curry with chicken and pad woon sen. The pork jerky wasn't pork jerky. It should have been deep fried but it seems like it was just pan fried for a long time to dry it out. The yellow curry had good flavor but hardly any chicken. Barely enough to make 2 McNuggets. The pad woon sen also had good flavor but the noodles were a bit overcooked thus mushy. My biggest gripe was the size of the dishes. The boxes they arrived in were the half-size to-go boxes, 8" X 5". And they weren't even full. I'm going to go back to ordering from Thai Paradise. It's better to pay a dollar or two more per dish to get more than twice as much food. So one star for flavor, one star for the fast delivery and minus one star for leaving me hungry.

Food: A- Service: B Food: Although I have been here multiple times, I am just going to write about my cousin's birthday experience this past weekend. We ordered the tom yum soup, the papaya salad, the ground pork with rice, pad see ew, and pad thai. Tom Yum Soup: Flavorful and delicious, but I wish it were a bit more sour. Papaya Salad: Perfectly dressed and spice level was not too overwhelming Ground pork with rice: Dish was good, but a little too salty Pad see ew: Perfection and not too oily. Pad Thai: Dish was good, but a little too sour for my taste. Service: We were a group of 20 or so people, so it was a little hard for the one man show to take care of both sides of restaurants so I totally understand his absence. However, he was very polite and came by whenever he could and was also very accommodating of our birthday plans. Although there were little mishaps here and there during this visit, I will still return here because it is close to work which makes it perfect for my lunch breaks and two I am in LOVE with their HOY-KA NOODLES! There are definitely mixed reviews about this place, but give this place a go and try it for yourself!

I went here last week. Worst customer service in my life. Me and my family were here for dinner. The girl rushed our order and was impolite. Literally just threw the food onto our table. While we were eating, the same waitress kept glaring at us, as if we came from another planet. Didn't leave tip, and I'm never coming back.

I don't know what happened to this Hoy-Ka. Quality control didn't just go downhill, it jumped off the cliff. The duck in my roast duck curry yesterday was way past its prime. At first I was so impressed by how many pieces of duck they used but unfortunately this was some foul-ass-fowl. What beats rotten meat you ask? The rice that came with the curry was old and dried out too! Sorry but when you can't make white rice come out decent...you gotta get out of the restaurant biz. Had an extremely late night craving for Thai food. My bf and I searched near and far, called several Thai places and this restaurant was the only one that wanted to feed us. Well, allow us to put in a to-go order hahah Although they were closing, they placed our order in. We waited patiently on their chairs and admired the cleaning, empty restaurant. I also wandered around and looked at their tray of dried thai goodies. They workers were extremely nice even if we held them late. We were sooo hungry- after we received our food, we drove somewhere nearby and ate LOOL Their tom yum shrimp soup had JUMBO shrimps inside. It wasn't as sour/spicy as I'd like but it still hit the spot. It was kinda salty which was a little odd. I adored their pad thai. They had a lot of extra veggies/sides piled on top that complimented the noodles really well. The shrimp, once again, was jumbo :) I'm really grateful that they fed us at such a late time, but this isn't one of my top Thai to-go places.

8pm Friday night only 2 tables were full and plenty of parking space. One friendly waiter was enough to take care of the operation. Papaya salad, Large boat noodle and Large Hoy-ka Noodle Pork. I have been driving to Hollywood for my Boat Noodle cravings. Secretly I was hoping that this place was going to save me gas money. Good portions, EXCELLENT flavor on the house special pork noodle. Customer always appreciate the kitchen when no spicy means zero spicy. Papaya salad ABOVE average. Boat noodle flavor was almost there but I'm afraid I'll be going back to Hollywood. Overall I will come back again and try the other dishes. Hidden little gem in the SGV.

Most Thai places cover up the blandness of their food by adding sugar, resulting in soggy, flavorless dishes. Hoy Ka is NOT one of these places. Their dishes are flavorful, fresh, spicy and complex. I've been to a lot of Thai places, here and in Northern California, but I can say this is probably the best papaya salad and best pad thai I've ever had. Highly recommend.

I think I'm addicted to their boat noodles. So good and so cheap! If you love chinese beef noodle soup, this is beef noodle soup on steroids. Tons of flavor, extra spicy, and all for the low price of $3.99 for a small or $6.50 for a large! I was being ultrafat the last time I was here and ordered a small boat noodles and crispy pork. YUM! A huge meal for about $11. I first tried the one in Hollywood but I was so happy to find out that they had another one in Monterey Park. The quality is the same. My only beef with this one is that food takes forever to come out no matter how empty it is. Don't they have the soup boilng away in the back and don't they just need to add hot noodles? Cash only, that's how you know you're eating in a whole in the walls(aka best food ever).

discovered this place not too long ago. the facility is nice and kept as they are making expansions fir a new additional room. minimal orders for credit/debit card use is $15. it is hard to find thai places that serves up pig blood soup but hoy ka has it and it is damned good. i tend to go for the $7.95 large bowl. thai ice coffee and tea are worth the price as well seeing they are not served up in small cups unlike other places i have been to. the pad see ew is good too and i anticipate making more returns to try other dishes on the menu. they also have delivery but am not sure what is the limit of distance so give them a call to find out.

New owner. Service is better, but the food still needs improvement. The boat noodle isn't as good as before. The soup base isn't as thick as it should be, and it has too much pepper in the soup. I think they use the same soup for both beef noodle soup and boat noodle. Flavor isn't there yet. Might come back again to give them another chance. If not, will only come when I really really need boat noodle soup! Not recommend anyone to try boat noodle soup just yet. It's not on point!

Not sure what's happened here, It's run down from my previous visits, doors were left wide open to avoid turning on the A/C so the place was still hot and the flies came in to buzz around. The portions are downsized and the food lost the flavour I remember, so sad to to see this happen!
(2)Linda T.
delicious delicious delicious! either i was very hungry or everything here tasted so good! love the cheap noodle soups-$3.95 for a small bowl of piping hot noodle soups. I got the hoyka noodle soup with thin rice noodles, fish balls, kidneys, bbq pork, and minced meat. it was light, hot, and spicy! i can probably devour 2 of these, but it was a very satisfying bowl of soup. they also have the boat noodles, which ive had at other places and will definitely have to try it here. papaya salad ($6.50) was a good portion. i got it medium spicy, and by medium, they mean spicy. it was very addictive having the spicy, sweet, tangy flavors swirl in my mouth. as my tongue was burning, i just couldnt help but eat more. crab fried rice came out piping hot as well. not as much crab meat as one would hope for, but it was a good plate of fried rice. pad see ew was yum with a lot of beef and chinese broccoli everything came out hot and delicious. service is typical hole in the wall service...lacking napkins, suspicious cleanliness of plates and utensils...etc. I am not certain if this place is cash only. there was a sign here before but i didnt see it this time.

Came here for the first time, new management is amazing here! We got complimentary egg-rolls. The elder man served us like if we know him forever just like home he made us feel! We order Pad Thai which is best place to get some and glass noodles stirred with chicken and it was amazing then when we finished we complimentary dessert on the house!! Amazing place to go must come back ASAP! Doing great stuff this establishments doing keep it up!

OK, So I like this place was like ok for me. I'm not really into like super spicy food, so i ordered mild with my fried pork rice. It was SPICY! its like medium, not mild. i kept on drinking water and the guy had to keep on refilling. My friend is even worst, he ordered the spicy noodles and he couldn't even finish half of it I laughed so hard, cause it was his birthday and he was almost crying haha. The place is small and only had 1 person working. I went on a Saturday and there wasn't even people in the restaurant. Kind of sad actually. But I think I would like come back here again. Just wouldnt order spicy anymore haha

I used to venture this location for a great thai food fix that was quick and tasty. About a month ago, I came in ordering the dishes I would normally order, the dishes came out lacking in flavor. This was the result of a change in management and chef in the kitchen. The food was OK overall, however it did not have the delicious quality it had before. Also, their a/c was not working and had to ask if the nearby fan could be turned on. I left disappointed, needless to say, I won't be back.

I ordered delivery through yelp. $30 minimum charge. I ordered the fried tofu, green curry, combo pad Thai, and pineapple fried rice....All for $40 bucks(including tip) When I got my food, I was surprised by how much food I got! The sauce that came with the fried tofu was on point, the green curry was okay, LOVED the pad Thai and the pineapple fried rice....was my fav!
(4)Mimi V.
I came here due to the outrageous low price i saw for the noodles, however it backfired on me when i ordered togo. I walked into this place and the sweet kind owner approached me and asked me what i would like to order. I ended up ordering the boat noodles with big noodles due to the raves about it. It came out to be 6.50 which i don't mind, but kind of defeated my purpose of coming for the 4.00 noodles. My order was in and i received my food within 5 minutes. When i tried it at home, the broth was way too sweet and spicy (i ordered medium, and should have gotten mild). I didn't quite enjoy it and ended up eating half only. I was disappointed with the boat noodle and would not order it again. I don't mind coming back next time to try the Hoy-Ka noodle, and will dine in next time. Stay tuned for my updated review.
(2)Albert W.
The food quality was there but doesn't have the vibe of the hollywood location. Come here if you just don't want to make the drive but seriously, its not the same. Oh yeah, the popular dishes are the same.... boat noodles, crispy pork, crab fried rice.
(4)Joanne L.
This place really deserves 5 stars. Small mom & pop place that doesn't get that much business, but really should. Everything I have ordered here is delicious and more like authentic Thai food than the regular places like Noodle World or any other more americanized places. The traditional Thai Boat Noodle soup is the best thing I've had there. I usually get it without the liver and tripe and I can't get enough of it. That is the top thing I recommend to order there. I really wish this place would get more recognition and will stay in business forever!
(5)James H.
I come here pretty often whenever I'm in the area. Can't decide between pork or chicken hoyka both are good. Beware even mild spicy poses a challenge and I love spicy food. The drunken noodle is good although the portions are not anything to write home about. Service is excellent, it is a mom and pop The only unfortunate thing is the location of the restaurant. It's in the back of the plaza, so look for the signs if it's your first time Do give the pan fried noodles a try but know this place is known for their soup noodles. Really delightful!

Where in Monterey Park can you get *REAL* Thai food? Most of the other Thai places I've tried are Chinese-fied Thai food, meaning sweet sauces, mild flavors, no Funk! Blech. That's not Thai food. Thai food should have you sweating and reaching for endless cheap napkins and have you pounding jasmine rice that's soaked up in those amazing Thai sauces. At Hoy-Ka you can get the real deal in the SGV. I'm slowly working my way through their menu, but I can tell you that they do 2 things really really well. 1. Soup noodles : their Hoy Ka noodles are their flagship operation, and they taste very authentically Thai. Slightly sour, slightly sweet, aromatic and with some mean kick with that incendiary Thai chili power. Get the thin rice noodles. It just works better. They also have duck noodles, yen ta foo, fish ball noodles. Their stir fried noodles are very good as well, but the soup is where you can't find anywhere else. 2. Crisp Pork: I'm Chinese so I eat a lot of fatty pork. You could say we are fatty pork disciples. Usually I eat it soft and uncsious as braised pork belly or a bacon like slice. Hoy Ka's pork belly is the total opposite, rendered crispy and hard in it's own fat it becomes a condensed concentrate of pork power. It's like pork rinds but more flavorful and fatty, and when combined in the amazing power of wok-chi and thai spices and seasongs it's absolutely heavenly. I like to get the Crispy Pork with Chinese Brocolli. The bitter of the chinese greens contrasts well with the fatty slightly spicy pork. It's a match made in heaven. Do yourself a favor and skip whatever else you're ordering at get Crispy Pork! Waitresses are nice. Prices are reasonable. All hail Hoy Ka!
(5)Kim W.
Whoa. Been coming here for a bit and the last two times were not good. Prices have gone up. The drunken noodles were over a huge pile of lettuce where there is more lettuce than noodles! Took forever for someone to even take our order and then had to wait another 45 mins for our order. We were so tempted to walk out. My husband's fried rice with crispy pork was really slim pickins when it came to the pork. Did they change management? They were closed the other day-- perhaps a handoff to someone else? I don't recognize any of the staff now. Prob won't be coming back...at least for awhile.

Went here with the gf to get some authentic Thai noodles. The place was at the end of a strip mall and seemed like the only thai place within the plaza. I was recommended to get the noodles since it is their specialty. Got the Yen Ta Fo noodles which was 26 on the menu. The noodles came pink which surprised me! One taste though and it amazed me how much flavor was in the noodles. There was a lot of noodles and i was so full after the meal. Also I highly recommend not going too spicy here since they tend to go overboard on the spiceyness. Overall I was very satisfied and enjoyed the experience of authentic Thai noodles! Servers were also very friendly and prompt!

Oh, Thai Boat Noodle! How I love thee! Hoy-Ka deserves $5 stars for their food, service, and price! My Thai friend recommended me Hoy-Ka when she found out I wanted to try Thai Boat Noodle. I'm a girl with big appetite so I was sort of bummed that their noodle came in a small bowl even for large. However, large bowl is only $5 so I just usually order 2 large bowls since I'd pay about $10 at other restaurants for a reasonable meal. :) In any case, their Boat Noodle is amazing! My Thai friends agree that Hoy-Ka is probably the best thai restaurant around this area! I've also tried duck over rice, hoy-ka noodle, and drunken noodle but everything's been great so far. Non-Spicy eaters! Beware, this place is authentic so the food here is really spicy even if you order medium spicy hah. As of service, I personally believe that they're great! Hoy-Ka is CASH only. With that in mind, my boyfriend and I stumbled on the bill when we realized neither of us brought cash. However, the lady owner told my boyfriend that we can bring the cash next time we visit the restaurant. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! She genuinely trusted us that we'll bring her the money back. We didn't want to take her generosity in advantage so my boyfriend ran across the street and cashed out from citibank. However, my boyfriend and I were touched with the lady owner's kind offer. :D Time to go to Hoy-Ka to satisfy my boat noodle craving!

I really love this place , if I have a chance to go to Los Angles I Alway come to have noodle here , will see again soon

***This post is reviewing delivery from this restaurant*** I recently ordered delivery from this restaurant. My boyfriend and I ordered Pad Thai, green curry, thai iced tea, and duck salad. The reason I gave this restaurant one star is because of the following: No rice when we ordered green curry....and theres no option on the menu to add a side order rice as well. So who would know it doesnt come with rice?? Thai Iced Tea....3/4 of the cup was ice. Duck salad.......its more liked duck with onions...no SALAD at all, and its too salty. --------------------------------------------------Â------------------------------------------ paid $36 for such bad experience

OMG what happened to this place?! Did they change owners? I was so excited to have a good Thai restaurant in the area. :( the search continues. I ordered my usual dishes and they were less than mediocre. Flavors were bland and not impressive. The crispy pork was not crispy but just hard. The fat was almost like a gummy texture. It stuck to my teeth until I picked it out. Not good. Larb was acidic but was drowning in lemon juice or lime juice, whatever. Thai boat noodles tasted slightly watered down. Pad see ew didn't have that balance of sweet and salty. Although the service was good and the food came out promtly, I'm not coming back.

Alright, the last two times I tried to come here, they were closed!!! What the heck? The first, I don't remember what for. But last night was for vermin inspection? - from the handwritten signs. I'm getting pretty annoyed. I keep telling people the great noodle soups to be had here, but I'm wondering if my efforts are in vain. I've had Hoy Ka Thai noodles at the Original Hoy Ka in Hollywood more times than I've come here between both attempted visits.
(3)Suzane C.
Juicy Thai Noodles for cheap!! This place is like the Ord thai in Hollywood. Awesome thai noodle soup that will not break your wallets. You can get small or large size for the soups. All the soups have the same or similar broth and everything is really good in the menu. I've tried only the soups so far but I think all their dishes would be awesome. Do not get spicy! I repeat do not get spicy unless u love spicy and can stand it. I got mild before and could barely drink the soup. You can get no spicy and add the spices yourself. The service here is awesome and fast. Holed up in a lil plaza in Monterey Park, you must try it out!!
(5)Arcadian B.
Spicy shitttt here hot dammmmm This is probably one of the few authentic thai noodle places you'll find in SGV...their portions are huge and if you cant take the heat then prepare urself to order lots and lots of water....it was a bad idea for me to come to this place when it was 90 degree outside and coming out of this place i was sniffing and sweating but dammm it was worth it...btw drive slowly when you come into this place cuz the entrance is so unoticable that i missed it twice...........
(4)Wendy C.
The Hoy Ka Noodle soup is AMAZING. The broth was so flavorful, and the meats in the dish are so delicious! I haven't ever had a dish like this before so it is a little hard to compare it to anything. I would have to say the broth tasted something like pho broth with a slight sweet sour twist to it? and for $4... I can't think of anything negative about this place!
(5)Dr. Groovy O.
The very first time I came it was delicious! I had to come back for more! But the key was to go when there was no other customers. I came here again a 2nd time this weekend and they had 2 waitresses working but only one was out on the floor. And she seemed to have Tunnel Vision. I saw 4-5 groups of customers get seated and leave because they were ignored. Others had to raise their hands to get a waitress's attention. I ended up leaving my leftovers because I couldn't get someone to get our check. I didn't want to wait 30 minutes for a couple of boxes. I stood by the cashier for 15 minutes as if they didn't want my money. The food here is great. Everything we had was delicious. It just took way to long to place a order and receive it. The service just seems to be bad when there are more than 2 people. Hopefully it was just a bad busy day.
(3)Sanny C.
The first time I been here I was like WHOA this place is amazing!!! This is probably the number 1 thai restaurant in the 626 area. I became a regular... Weeks ago, I came back and it was probably one of the worst thai restaurants...the service was horrible (everyone disappeared or was hiding) and the food was pretty nasty. It made me wonder why but today I finally got the answer. The original owner here moved to Angel Thai House located on Valley in the same plaza as PHO 54 and not to mention, the original chef at HOY KHA also moved to Angel thai house! Happy :) please come to the new place and support

"I do not think it's the same one from LA (Thai-town), I expected to be much better. It turns out just fine. Feels like the food is not that fresh" NKT

Came here for a later dinner earlier. This place isn't big on the decor and feel of other Thai restaurants I've been to, but it's definitely affordable. Got the Hoy-Ka Noodle Soup, small, flat noodles with pork (meatball, liver, etc). Non-spicy. Green curry with chicken (had to order rice on the side). The noodle soup was definitely good. It was still a bit spicy but that's expected for Thai food usually.. right??! lol I liked it. The small is definitely a good portion for lunch or a like a super light dinner. Green curry was somewhat watered down... It wasn't super spicy like other green curries I've had before. Meeehhhh... I heard the quality of this place has gone down, which sucks 'cause I was hoping I could give this place 4 stars, at least. Prices were decent. A little less than most places, I believe? The staff was a bit weird with the orders... I'm not sure why but since I'm basing this off one visit, I'll leave you with that. Hehheh.
(3)Christine L.
The food here is good. Not the BEST THING EVER, but you will have a pretty decent meal. I think I've tried over half the menu and my favorites would be... the Crispy Pork with chinese broccoli over rice, Laht Nah/Rard Nah (rice noodles with gravy sauce), and the rice dish with the diced green beans and minced meat looking thing (sorry, can't recall what it's called! yikes). If you get the boat noodles, please be warned.... it is SPICY! I ask for mild and after a few bites I have sweat dripping down my face. not even exaggerating. I'd stick with no spicy next time. I like a bit of heat, but I don't like to drown in my own sweat during a meal. I think this place would be 5 stars IF and ONLY IF the service was better. I get a really really weird vibe from the owner/waitress. It's like she doesn't care.... she's not someone you ask for recommendations or strike up a short conversation with, let alone someone you want serving you. It's WEIRD. I think they need to hire some waiters/waitresses to handle the customer service so we can all have a better dining experience.
(3)B L.
This place is pretty INEXPENSIVE. It ranges from $5-7 for a bowl of noodles. But the bowls are a little smaller than normal. The BROTH IS DELICIOUS. So FLAVORFUL The little meatballs in my noodles were soft. But keep in mind there are A LOT of BEAN SPROUTS. I at first thought there were a lot of noodles.. but it was the bean sprouts. FREE WIFI- password is posted on the cashier counter (so you don't have to ask =]) Parking sucks... It's actually a pretty busy plaza for a bunch of random little asian stores.

I love Thai Food and I've been craving Thai Boat Noodle for some time now. I'm always looking for a good Thai Restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley since it is very scarce out here. I decided to check out this restaurant with my sister. Hoy-Ka Thai Noodle is located in a quiet plaza on Garfield Blvd in Monterey Park. I decided to go with the Thai Boat Noodle of course and my sister had the crab fried rice. I ordered the Thai Boat Noodle medium spicy and it was rather spicy. I was sneezing and coughing as a result. My sister had the crab fried rice. This was a bit on the dry side and it taste ok. The Thai Boat Noodle was good. I would go back if I'm craving Thai Boat Noodle. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other dishes next time and give it a better rating. So for now, more a 3.5 till I try out some more dishes. This place takes only cash. They have an atm on site if you forgot.

I was craving Thai food after a long day of driving. I came here knowing I could count on cheap and delicious food. We ordered Tom Yum with the shrimp and mushrooms, shrimp pad thai, and tofu pad see ew. All of the dishes were amazing. We ordered the Tom yum medium and I think it was way too spicy for us. I accidentally ate a chili and WOW. My mouth was on fire. It had great flavors but I thought it could be a little more sour. The shrimp pad thai was mouth watering. The flavor of that familiar pad thai taste was ON POINT! It was sweet but not overly sweet. The noodles were cooked to perfection. The tofu, shrimp, bean sprouts, and peanuts were given in plentiful amounts. Adding that squeeze of lemon brings all of the ingredients together with a match made in heaven taste! I'd order this again, and again, and again! The pad see ew was wonderful as well. I haven't had pad see ew with such great flavors and this really is the best that I've had. The chinese broccoli pieces were cooked right. Not too soft. The tofu came in nice sized cubes and it worked well with the noodles. I guess my standards aren't that high? Doesn't matter. I loved it. -Give it a try! P.S. Service is sufficient. Utensils are found in the silver box.
(4)Virakneary R.
Every food here is delicious. The only con is the service. They take forever just to get a noodle soup to my table even though there are only 2 groups of people in the restaurant. So if you have lot of free time and want to enjoy a good food, this is the place.
(4)Pam S.
I check it out the first time today. Good food, but POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. No air conditioning today. I had a spicy noodle in a sun room. :- ( Better to get a new waitress. You made a mistake on the order but you didn't accept it. Hoy Ka Hollywood is good, they know what's a customer service.
(1)Martha W.
False advertising. They do not have functioning wi-fi. Food was fine, but there are a lot of other great places in the area
(2)Gloria C.
I am so happy that my authentic thai dinner companion introduced me to Hoy-Ka. This place has the best noodle soups I've ever tried. I tried the thai boat noodle and hoy-ka noodle soup and both were fantastic. I especially recommend it if you enjoy spicy broths. I had a "small" bowl of each noodle soup, and it cost me $3.50 for each. The "large" bowls are $5.00. This is cheap delicious thai food at its best. I would pick hoy-ka over any of the large thai food chains in the So-cal area any day! The restaurant is hidden in the corner of a quiet plaza in Monterey Park. And the waitresses there are mostly moms who dance to the music playing in the restaurant. It was a bit distracting at times but it made me laugh.
(5)Kat L.
I visited this restaurant twice this week. Hoy-Ka is a soup noodle dish. You have the option to get it with chicken or pork. The broth was sweet, spicy, and savory broth. I had pork and egg noodles in my Hoy-Ka. During lunch Hoy Ka is $3.75. The pork was homemade and seasoned at the restaurant. The Hoy Ka portion was perfect for a light lunch. It was enough for one.. The papaya salad was just okay. It was missing the dried shrimp and lacked spiciness. The ground pork and rice was fresh and the portion was large. My boyfriend asked for medium spice, which was lacking. Next time we are going to ask for spicy. I ordered Hoy-Ka another night for pick up. The crispy pork ka prao was tasty and included cut up green beans. My boyfriend got the sweet and sour pork with lemon grass. We got medium spicy and again we regretted it. If you like spicy ask for spicy. Hoy-Ka goes easy on the spice. My Thai friends like this place for the Hoy-Ka, Ka Prao, and Thai boat noodles. If Thai people approve for authenticity, then this has to be good. I will be back! **The only thing I didn't like about Hoy-Ka is that the receipt is written in Thai and didn't include the numerical value of the food. There was a miscalculation that I caught, but it was hard to ask about this since the receipt did not have any prices on it. I have been to Thailand and there are numbers in Thailand... please include the price on the receipt.

Hoy-Ka Thai noodle @ Monterey Park...not to be mistaken with Ord Hoyka noodle in Hollywood. I asked my favorite yelp team member Nick H to meet me here. Finding this place was kinda a challenge, I actually had to rely on my GPS to make sure I didn't get lost. That was my first time using GPS @ Monterey Park. The place was half empty when I got there. I was seated right away by this friendly lady. Ordered Hoyka noodle since that seemed to be the specialty. The lady asked for what kind of noodle I wanted for my soup and I asked for bihun noodle. I was pleasantly surprised when she had that noodle. My noodle came pretty quick and the temperature was perfect. The broth was nice and flavorful, definitely one of the best Thai noodle in San Gabriel Valley area. The soup came with tiny meatballs, pork balls, sliced fishcake and BBQ pork slices. I asked for extra chopped peanuts and the waitress accomodated my request in seconds. I truly enjoyed my noodle but I got tired eating it. I would rate this place higher if I never had Thai in Hollywood. I would go back though to try the other stuff such as crispy pork, pad see ew, and this interesting looking dish called pan egg. The service is great, friendly and quick. The price is about the same with Hollywood Thai noodle prices but the portion is a little bigger compared to Hollywood's restaurant standard. Free wifi. Closed on Monday. Cash only. 3.5 stars!! Hoy-Ka Thai noodle is yummylicious!!
(3)Jackie W.
I made the mistake of eating here twice in a day. I'm not changing the amount of stars I'd give to Hoy-Ka Thai Noodle because I still feel like the quality and value is tremendous. However, DO NOT EAT HERE TWICE IN A DAY unless you have the stomach of Superman / Wonder Woman. I came here for lunch, and then recommended Hoy-Ka Thai Noodle to my friend when I saw her later in the day. Apparently, it was enough to get the both of us to go back (I'm sure having some liquid courage in our systems played a factor) in the later hours they're open for a second round. Needless to say, I was not feeling so good during the night after and into the early afternoon the day after. That spice is NOT to be messed with. I should have known, and that's that. I'm not going to change the amount of stars I'd give because that's like giving McDonald's less stars because it makes me fat and I go there several times a day. Don't say I didn't warn you!

Hoyka Noodle with Yummy Broth! The broth, meat, peanuts, and liver were yum. Liver was a tad dry but still made the soup a very delicious dish. My noodles were AOK. The broth was truly what made my bowl of soup 4 stars. I came here with Mags C. who did all the ordering. I picked the place. She picked the food. Nice combo. There are two sides to the restaurant. It is kind of hard to find. It is nestled in the far back corner of a plaza. Alas, look for the banner in the front of the plaza and let it guide the way. Soup was cheap and pretty darn good. Good service. They also have Hale's Blue Boy Here!!! yay! I am a fan!

No matter what kind of food i'm going to eat, originality is the 1st thing in my mind (except Fusion). Finally we got Hoy-Ka Thai noodle, i've been looking for some real Thai noodle in soup for LONG time in SGV !! Suggestion : Compare to regular guy, i have a small stomach, you got to order large size for the noodle in soup. Otherwise i have to order 2nd dish to fill you up. And do not order mild spicy at the 1st time, because IT IS pretty spicy. Over all taste very good, i'm loving it ^^
(5)Jason F.
When i think Thai food I'm thinking North Hollywood, pad thai, tom yum soup, pad see ew, pineapple fried rice, papaya salad and mango with sticky rice. So it interested me that this place was more known for their soup noodle bowls which quite frankly i didn't even know existed and have never tried so i have nothing to compare what i had here to. So i tried the boat noodle #2 with beef. What can i say this was? I'll give it a mix combination of pho & bun bo hue. The broth is dark and flavorful. Oily, spicy, salty, goodness gracious yummy! Filled with either big noodle or small noodle (pho noodles), i went with small. Add small chunks of beef, liver, some vegetables, and beef balls and you have a great soup that is very comforting and filling. I'm not the biggest liver fan either, but eating it with the soup broth was doable. This place also does serve the usual thai food most people are accustom to. It isn't just soup noodles. Large bowl, a iced thai coffee came out to $7.17 (cash only). Great stuff! Location isn't as great as it's all the way in the back of his plaza and i knew what was there before, so i hope this place sticks around. Side note: i believe they have one opened up in Hollywood as well.

I go with two other newbies and one experienced person. The experienced person tells us what's good. The fiance and I order the boat noodle soup with the pig's blood broth. The duck and meat ball soup does not have pig's blood, if you don't like that stuff. Three of us want medium spicy and the experienced one orders mild. You can also state non-spicy if you like. You can also choose from three different types of noodle. They only asked us if we wanted thin or thick but they gave one person thicker noodles (over vermicelli). He ordered a second bowl 'cuz he was still hungry and got the vermicelli noodles. I usually order medium but every "medium" is different depending on the restaurant. We all order a large size for only $5. The $1.50 iced teas are also a great bargain. I start to sip the soup to test the level. It's not bad. I can handle medium. Then, slowly, it all hits us. One of us is completely quiet so I didn't even know he ordered spicy. My fiance and I are sniffling. The experienced friend starts sweating. A guy two tables away from us start coughing from the spices. It seriously creeps up on you. Yet, I was determined to finish all the noodles inside the bowl. I had to guzzle my thai tea and while I was impatiently waiting for water, I was sucking ice chunks in my thai tea cup. I also grabbed a few napkins from the next table because I knew I need it. Next time, I want to order non-spicy just to see what the actual broth tastes like. Whew! Don't say I didn't warn you. We all went for frozen yogurt afterewards just to cool down. You may also get a burning sensation in your stomach. Plenty of parking since the whole shopping center is pretty dead.

3.5 rounded up. Good cheap Thai food. =) Oddly enough... it DOES remind me of being back in Thailand ... very simple decor with good home cooking. No frills, nothing remotely fancy. Probably not the place to take someone if you're trying to impress 'em. We ordered about 6-7 plates and total was $40. CHEAP! Favorites were the chicken noodle soup and the rad na with plump pork. Shrimp in the pad Thai was super sweet and fresh. =) Crispy pork fried rice, beef w/ broccoli and satay veggies were okay. Menu is limited (President Thai, Thai Paradise and such have a MUCH more extensive menu), so expect the basic Thai food here and expect the spice level set accordingly to traditional Thai standards -- mild means it's still a tad spicy. =) Thai iced tea is good - expect strong tea flavor. Wonderful service and free wi-fi! CASH ONLY. Thanks to Alan K for his review!

Had their green curry, if you're not a fan of heavy lemon grass like I am don't get it. Stick to their noodles that's what they're good for.

Was shown this place by my awesome Thai foodie friend and fell in love and can't stop recommending it to everyone and taking new people here. It's a hard to find location at first so I enjoy literally taking people here every chance I get. This was also the first place me and my boyfriend ate at together, and he's kind of picky but liked it a lot, too. Good thing, because if he didn't, we'd have problems. =) Cash only. I always get the small chicken hoy ka noodles with the big flat noodles, not spicy (I can't handle spicy and mild is still too intense for me), sometimes with a Thai iced tea, and it's always perfect. Service is usually a hit or miss (and even the "miss" isn't bad--It's just slow sometimes for no reason, but it's usually pretty fast) but I can't complain or let it affect my review because it's so cheap and good (and standard for the area). In an out in less than an hour for sure, so even if you don't have a lot of time, I would still stop by. And I see on the door that they deliver! Haven't been to the Hollywood location yet so I can't compare, but this place is close to me, and never too packed, so I'm golden on just going here. Proximity and no wait? Yay.

Duck noodles was terrific. Sticky rice would have been perfect if only they did not forget to bring the magoes. I will definitely try the other foods on their menu.
(4)Tim E.
Excellent food choice tonight. Pad se ew was pretty good, the crispy pork was okay, the sweet and sour shrimp was eh, the Pad Thai was pretty good I like the texture of the noodles. The best of all was the Hoy Ka noodles which I recommend getting spicy. The service in my opinion sucked. They can definitely improve on it. It was hard to get somebody to take our order and each dish delivered I had to take it from the waitress and place it on the table myself. The dishes are quite small so if you order family style your gonna have to order at least three dishes per person. This was the same owner as the branch in Thai Town but now has moved here to Monterey Park. Google maps shows the front of this building inaccurately, just for your info. I'll be back here again.

Hoy-Ka is Thai-riffic! :) It's like a splash of Thai flavors (tangy, spicy, sour, shrimpy, meaty) packaged nicely in a small bowl of yumminess for only $3.75! After driving to Hollywood for this, I'm so GLAD they opened this up in MPK! No more driving loong distance for HOY-KA! I usually order the small Chicken Hoy-ka w/ egg noodle. It's Quite big for a so called "small". My boyfriend loves the Boat House (beef flavored) with pho noodle, I guess it's more manly because of the beef-iness. We usually add on a side order of papaya salad a la carte. :P It's very delicious! It's quite cheap for what you're getting!

Upon arrival we noticed something about the place was different. It looked cleaner and brighter which is a definite plus! (one star) We didn't know they had a change of ownership; all we noticed again was that it took quite long for the food to come out until 25 min later when the grilled beef salad we ordered finally came out. But it wasn't grilled. :( well, okay...we were then so looking forward to eating their basil crispy pork but...were so, so disappointed!! It tasted very different than what we had in the past. Overcooked pork and no basil taste. :( The boat noodle also didn't have that lime taste...another disappointment. The waitress tried her best to be friendly and accomodating. (One more star). But I guess the change of ownership proved to be too much to maintain what we expect...not the hoy ka noodle we came to know! Why oh why...?
(2)Grace C.
Great pad thai and pad see ew, very flavorful and not too salty. We ordered take out and they said it would be ready in 20 mins. When we arrived 30 mins later, the food was not ready. The male server said we could have Thai Tea for free while we waited. After the order was ready the female server charged us for the drinks because the male server did not communicate to her the complimentary drinks. We paid for the drinks since we were in a rush to leave and did not want the hassle. Overall, the food is tasty, but service is only ok. Parking is also easy to find.
(4)Justin T.
Totally delicious noodle. I had Hoy Ka pork noodle, ask for separate the soup if you prefer dry on your noodle. Nice server, good dish. Definitely recommended and will coming back.
(5)Short D.
So honestly I expected more. I ordered their shrimp chow mien and was disappointed. The noodles tasted a bit like cheap store ramen noodles; the shrimps were exceptional. The Thai tea coffee was good. Also it says here there is wifi which is not true. The place is a bit small and looks a little cheap.

I loved Pa Ord in Hollywood so much that I was thilled when I heard about this restaurant in nearby Monterey Park. I am so happy that this place is closer! (and easier to find parking at!) It's located in the very back of a plaza, with plenty of parking all around. I'm almost 100% positive this used to be a Chinese restaurant, based on the very Chinese-looking booth seats. There is also a giant TV screen on the wall, which means that you can always catch a basketball game during your meal. I know this place is known for their Hoy Ka noodle, but I was desperately craving boat noodles. The boat noodle broth is not as rich as Pa Ord's, and the fire-y kick isn't quite there. I tried some of SO's Hoy Ka noodles, and the flavor is pretty good, although it's hard to compare it to the boat noodles. I wasn't intrigued enough by the Hoy Ka (very light flavor), but I enjoyed the crispy pork and green beans dish. If I don't feel like making the drive out to Hollywood, this restaurant is a great substitute!

Who ever knew there was such a delightful thai restaurant in Monterey Park that actually prices their food correctly, or maybe wrong in the right way? FOOD QUALITY: For $5.00 you can run away with a regular sized soup noodle that is filled with tasteful broth. Whether it's authentic or not, I honestly can't tell you but I would think to some degree it feels a little "home-made" and definitely real. ... Real as in, they took the time to make the broth. Their Thai Tea is good! On the sweet side but at least it's worth getting since it costs less than half the amount of thai teas you'd get from most boba chains. Pad Thai is also pretty good, but if you want to compare it to something like Banana Bay and Thai Spice -- I'd say that Hoy-Ka's pad thai is the most 'homely' pad thai of these three places. (Thai Spice being 'kitchen'-like and Banana Bay being 'gourmet'-like). SERVICE: The service is standard and friendly. You have to flag them down when you want something, but that isn't too hard (for me) since it's usually empty. ENVIRONMENT: It's a little old, I have to say. However, the utensils and place is still clean. The restaurant is pretty spacious and tables are spread well apart in the center. Booth seating is pretty comfortable as well. Overall, the food and price here is a big plus for me that I'd prefer to go here over most that you'd find in Monterey Park.

One word to describe this place...FABULOUS!!! Yes it's hard to find but still for $3.00 something for Thai Boat Noodles soooo super worth it, and this is the only place where they have it spicy enough where i don't ask for the chili oil. Yum yum yum spicy noodles oh how i love thee. And they have a unique taste to it. Where you can taste a bit of sweetness with the spicy and actually I really like it. Also the portion is just right where it's perfect for me. Normally the portion is too big and i end up wasting more than half the food. Only downside is there aren't that many people working there and if it's a busy night then sometimes they lag with your orders...even paying too. But in my book they deserve a five star for having good food at an awesome price. I mean its a small place what do you expect???
(5)Lisa D.
Google maps sucked! I had such a hard time finding this place and its like hidden all the way in the back corner of the plaza. No big enough signs! The staff scared me because she looked into my eyes and said i'm very beautiful and i look like i should be someone in a hong kong movie. But besides that 4 stars from me! :) Boat [beef] noodles is super good...I got a large size and it was perfect. The portion is small.even for a large. I got mild and it was freaking spicy! So please be aware of this if you aren't a super spicy eater. I learned my lesson! The bf got egg noodles hoy ka noodles large and it didnt look spicy. However it was!! But both items are very delicious... Definitely a hidden gem! Prices were really reasonable. Two bowls of noodles for less than $ 11 bucks minus tip. Service was great as well. One big tv screen and free wifi! They are open from 11am-11pm closed mondays. Place is pretty clean and spacious! I'm definitely coming back! I'm definitely a fan now!
(4)Alison T.
Pad Thai is awesome here. Super delicious and they don't skimp you on the meat either. I tried the Thai boat noodles too. It was $4 for a small bowl and that's enuf to fill me but I don't have a big appetite. Only bad thing I have to say was it wasn't very clean. Chopsticks and spoons were kept in a small box that seem a little dirty. Table was sticky.
(4)Mike L.
Where the hell have I been? I live pretty much down the street from the place but never went inside this plaza. I guess it's pretty much hidden since it's off the street and all the way at to the end of the plaza. Randomly yelped this place and wanted something with noodles + soup. Authentic and affordable restaurant. Took all yelpers suggestions which was basically their two specialty. Hoy-Ka Noodles + Thai Boat Noodles. Hoy-Ka Noodles - Ordered the "A" one with pork. You get to pick your noodles. Had vermicelli with this one. $3.75 for a small bowl. There wasn't much noodles in this so had to order extra noodles. Thai Boat Noodles - Ordered this one with "pho" noodles. Also a small bowl. $3.75. Filled with so much flavor. Both noodles were really good. Also being that the bowls are "small" size. We also ordered "Pork Blood Soup". This was good too. Light and had pork kidney, pork blood, liver, grounded meat, and vegetables. Thai Tea - $2.00 pretty good but most of your cup is filled with ice. Tips you should definitely follow - Thai people don't eff around when it comes to their spice. Mild is spicy. Order spicy if you are brave enough. Just know you'll pay for it at the end of the night when you are in the sh1t3rs shooting chili.

whooo hooo !! very good and delicious! A+!!! Noodle soup portions are small.. but its cheap and good. This is definitely a hidden gem.. all the way in plaza that I've never drove into before.. haha I had #1 which is there hoy-ka noodle soup. My friends got noodle dishes.. Pictures shown. I will definitely go back to this place. Nice authentic thai hole in the wall .. what more can I ask for.. I don't have to drive all the way to hollywood to get a good bowl of Tom yum soup!! :)
(5)Jeffrey W.
If you want some really great Thai noodles and don't want to trek all the way down to Thai Town for something authentic and tasty, then this is the place for you. No its not Presdent Thai, its better atleast in the respect of their Pad Thai and rice dishes. They'r open late and its affordable and just delish... The downside to this place is its obscurity and the fact that its cash only. Nevertheless now one of my staples in the SGV.

Took my family here on a week night and there was maybe 2 or 3 other parties finishing up in the restaurant. We ended up ordering 2 noodle soup dishes and 4 other entrees. The noodle soups came out in about 10 minutes, but the rest of the food took a good 20 minutes to arrive. At this point we were one of 2 groups left in the restaurant and the inattentive staff only made the situation worse. Our waters weren't refilled, the box holding utensils had maybe 2 pairs of chopsticks left, and we weren't given any napkins. I've eaten here a few times before and the service was okay. Today however, probably ruined my experience of wanting to eat here again.

hoy-ka and i broke up on friday night. we were doing really well- we were together for 3 yrs and recently it just went downhill. i loved their boat noodle soup, that's my usual, then later i discovered they have the naked shrimp. i fell in love even more. but lately, i felt inconsistencies on their food in the taste and quality. the boat noodle soup tastes different every time we've gone in the past couple of months. on friday, my bf's soup was REALLY greasy (not to mention, tastes diff than usual), and that's coming from a dude who can eat a stick of lard. also the naked shrimp was not fresh. we had the sauce on the side (we did that b/c sometimes the dish is REALLY spicy, other times not), but even after soaking the shrimp in the sauce, there was still a weird (frozen?) taste when i ate it. also the restaurant was so low on staff. it was a friday night and there was 1 server, the restaurant was pretty much full. we saw people walk in and out without ordering b/c they waited too long. all patrons got free thai iced tea b/c of the wait. we waited about half hr for 2 soups and 1 naked shrimp that didn't require any cooking. in fact, this isn't the first time we waited half hr for food...it's the 2nd time. 1st time we thought it was just an off night, but 2nd time? i think it's time we go separate ways. 2 stars b/c we were together for 3 yrs and i'm a sentimental person.

I've become a fan of this place. Hoy Ka noodles, Kapow rice dish, and their tom yum all are prepared very well. I find myself coming back here quite regularly. Looks like a family run operation. They would do so much more business if they had any marketing going on. (Their take out menu is a black & white copy). The only strange thing is the spice levels. Sometimes they'll let you do a dish not spicy and have the spice on the side and sometimes they won't. Let me warn you, their lowest level of spice will still kick your ass. Besides that, great food.
(4)Mei S.
Best thai boat noodles in LA! I always get it w/beef and pho noodles. The food is great but the service is pretty slow sometimes.
(4)Ritch I.
Expensive restaurant prices but hole in the wall ambience. Food taste so so! Will not come back again.

Ok first of all if you have never been here this place is ridiculously hard to find. To help everyone out the restaurant is located in the plaza across from Citibank. Pretty much if you were standing in front of Citibank it would be horizontally to the left all the way in the back on the plaza. It took almost 20 minutes for my GF and I to even find this place even with the help of the useless GPS. Ok enough about how hard it is to locate this restaurant and on with the food. This place has some damn good noodles, I mean DAMMMMMN GOOD!!! I ordered the Hoy-Ka with chicken which came with fat rice noodles with fish balls, ground chicken, chicken pieces, bean sprouts and a delicious soup broth. I decided to order mild after reading all the warnings on Yelp, and I am glad I did. I love spicy food but damn this thing packs a knock out punch. The mild was already spicy enough I can only imagine what the medium spicy would do to my digestive system. Be warned this stuff if spicy as hell. I will give props to anyone that can eat a full bowl of HOT Spicy noodles at this place. Also make sure to mix the noodles around in your bowl because there are plenty of spices and seasonings that are on the bottom which I realized after eating half of my food. Make sure to get a large bowl because the small is definitely not enough and you will be wishing for more of the delicious noodles. This place is really a hidden gem. The food is super cheap. The total for our meal was less then $10 for one large bowl of noodles and one small bowl. If Hoy-Ka was located in a better location the business would definitely be a million times better. If you are in the mood for a super delicious bowl of Thai noodles this place is definitely a place you will want to hit up. I will definitely be back for more!!!!
(5)Cindy C.
OH, what a surprised! MMM...Very addicting and satisfying noodles!!! When I read the reviews I totally thought this is a hole in the wall type of place with sticky old tables, it actually isn't THAT hole in the wall lol. It's kind of hidden at the end of a small plaza, but the restaurant interior appears pretty spacious and clean. I haven't had anything else other than their hoy-ka noodles and the boat noodles. The portions are on the small side even when you order the large bowl ($5.00). So what I do is I order a small bowl of hoy-ka ($3.50) and a small bowl of the boat ($3.50), 2 bowls of mouth watering hotmess for $7.00 total. You get the best of both, its perfection! The soup is extremely flavorful and the rice noodles pick up all that complex flavor so well. Each bite is a little more intense than the bite before. And yes, I usually end up in sweats from the spicy soup but it's the good type of heat, very enjoyable. This is such a great variation and and a wonderful addition of food choice for the area! I'm very eager to try their other items such as papaya salad and the crispy pork, when I'm ready to fight off my cravings for the soup one of these days. So if you live in the area, def give it a try. You will most likely become a regular.
(5)Zan C.
I LOVE THIS THAI PLACE. OMGGGAAHHH RAWR PAD SEE EW AND DRUNKEN NOODLES...their sticky rice and mango is good too (but thats hard to mess up). This place gives me the right to say that thai in the 626 pwnz thai town where its all americanized to cater to hollywood foodies. they dont know what they're missing. trust me. i vacay'ed around thailand for a month.
(5)Linda Y.
Surprise the small bow noodle means half bowl noodles. Their quantity is bad and they even argue with me.
(1)Twee D.
I never knew this place existed until I was craving Thai and relied on Yelp. This restaurant is nestled in the back of a small plaza, so you might miss it. So far, I have been here three times. All of the entrees I have tried have been flavorful and delicious. Their Hoy-Ka noodles (#1 on the menu) is so awesome!!! There's so much flavor in one bowl and they are so serious about their spice level; mild is like medium elsewhere. I also tried pad-se-yew, their signature crispy pork, and fried rice. I recommend all of them; you can't go wrong here!!! Only negative is that they charge an extra 50 cents for each take-out dish and their portions are on the small side.
(4)Tammy L.
Slowest service ever. Only one waitress for a Friday night. There were 6 tables, and she was on the phone the whole entire time. Another party came in after us and she took their order before ours. On top of all that the food (appetizer- fried tofu) took 20 min. Then the entree came 15 min after that. The drunken noodle was really good till my husband discovered raw chicken! Seriously, after already being there for an hour just to wait on two items, our meal had raw chicken. Never coming back again.
(1)Toan N.
Best thai food ever! Hoy Ka noodles are flavorful and spicy and the crab fried rice is a must have!
(5)Patrick W.
I've been here several times and the dishes are hit or miss. The basil chicken with the fried egg is my favorite. The duck noodle soup is pretty bad. The prices are good.
(3)Maggie C.
I am absolutely obsessed!! I got that Hoy Ka thai with pork! I also asked for mild spicy, but damn, it was still hot! Next time, I'll get no spicy at all :D hopefully they have that option but OMG I'm so glad I found this hole in the wall! All thanks to yelp of course! Everything is super cheap and that bowl of noodles I got were exploding with flavor! Be sure you mix that tasty bowl of scrumptious noodles very well cause I found all the flavors at the bottom! Oh my goodness, I've never had anything like it before at a Thai place and I'm so sad that I won't be able to satisfy my craving unless I'm in the neighborhood. Guess I gotta go back! I also got the Tom Kha soup - it was the size of a large (I really mean large) bowl of pho! Only I wish it was not so watered down! Other than that, damn that noodle soup was delish!
(4)Amy L.
A friend recommended this place so I came with high expectations. I met up with a Thai friend which i thought would be a good idea since her palate for thai food would be more spot on. I asked my friend to order cause I had to quickly use the ladies room. Big mistake! Homegirl ordered the noodle soup in MILD so it wasn't as good as i wanted. I wish it were spicier. Nevertheless, the broth tasted flavorful with a tang to it. The portions were generous since my friend and I were able to share and still feel filling. We also ordered the papaya salad which tasted BOMB! It has right balance-sweet, sour, salty & spicy. Overall, the service was prompt and there's free wifi which is a bonus! I'm definitely coming back again and next time I'll be ordering!
(4)Amy L.
My sister and I came to try the Thai Boat Noodles because we've been searching for a really good Thai restaurant in the SG area. I have to say that it's by far the best around, but of course it's nothing compared to the ones in LA. I like that they serve liver in there which I think makes the soup super tasty. There's this strange sweetness to the soup that throws me off. I ordered mine without spice because I had been warned, but it was kind of meh.. so i threw some of that chili powderish stuff in there and that made it taste much better. We ordered the papaya salad as well and weren't that impressed. The place looks nice and clean, the menu looks good... I think I'll be back to try their other dishes too and possibly update this review.
(3)Karen K.
When we don't feel like driving out to Thai Town for Thai food we like to stop by here to either pick up dinner or eat there. I always get the pad sewi with beef and the bf gets the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork over rice. The food is always consistent. Last week the bf decided to try something new and the seafood over rice was really good too.
(5)Justin L.
OMG. One of the few legit Thai soup places not in Thai Town! :O It's obvious that Hoy-Ka specializes in noodle soups. When the server takes your order, she asks what kind of noodles you'd like in your soup (pho, vermicelli, rice, etc.) Hoy Ka noodles: Sweet and tangy. Ordered the small size, which was surprisingly big. Thai boat noodles: Mmm.. Pork blood. Really earthy flavors, yummy bits of liver and other innards in a potently spicy (even for mild) broth. Drunken noodles: Meh. The plate was half-empty, obvious they skimped on portions. Like I said, their specialty is noodle soups, not pan-fried noodles. The place is a bit hard to find. Located at the deep end of the Garfield Gardens Plaza.
(5)Rebecca H.
I always get a small bowl of noodles when I come here for lunch. You have a choice of noodles. I like thin rice noodles like the ones in pho. The other ones are broad and flat. They look pretty good but they look like they would be a big slurpy mouthful. The Hoy-Ka chicken noodle soup is so flavorful. There is fish cake, fish balls, and ground chicken, bean sprouts, tiny dried shrimp, and noodles. For once, medium spicy is hot enough for me. I advise you to eat slowly. If you suck something up the wrong pipe, the hospital is across the street. The restaurant is very clean, parking in the lot is easy, and the prices are dirt cheap. You can eat for about $7 with a Thai iced tea or iced coffee, both of which are magnificent. I am still awake hours after the iced coffee. Maybe I will sort out my sock drawer after I finish this review.
(4)Jerry K.
Love the food here. Their signature noodle is full of flavors and just the right amount. The papaya salad was a good balance of sweet, salty and sour. I can only complaint that they didn't add the dry shrimp that I was use to. Best of all, the Larb with sticky rice. I don't usually stuff my self, but I had no choice. Good savory and sour taste that was complimented by stick rice absorbing and cooling my palate. Can't wait for more.
(5)Dave L.
Hoy Ka is authentic as it's going to get in the Monterey Park / Alhambra area for Thai food. I stopped in here for lunch and it was super packed and that's always a good sign. Located in the back of a little strip mall / outdoor plaza (across the street from the CitiBank), Hoy Ka is a great little neighborhood gem. It features authentic Thai food that rivals the quality of that found in Thai town and at disgustingly low prices. My friend and I got two small bowls of noodles (Hoy Ka Noodles and the Boat Noodles) along with the minced pork with rice and a fried egg (forgot the Thai name of it but it's pictured in the center of their picture menu on the wall). All three were delicious. $16 later, we were full. I would have checked in on Yelp but the cellular coverage is non-existent and yes although they post the WiFi password on the walls, they don't list the router name so good luck trying to find which one it is! Haha.
(4)J. H.
Well I generally write when I'm impressed or when I'm disappointed. This is unfortunately a case where I was disappointed. First off they only take CASH and there is no sign out front. That is unfair to let you know when you receive the bill. My seafood soupy noodle was measly on the seafood with two shrimps and an abundance of fake crab plus a few slices of fish ball (c'mon give me the whole fish ball!) The fried pork and green beans felt old and chewy. There were very few vegetables in my soups except for lettuce. Why go to Monterey Park when you can find better Thai on the Westside?
(2)Jeany K.
I am just glad that Hoy Ka/Ord has made it's merry way to the 626! Service can be a little slow but the ladies are just so sweet that it's forgiveable, keep in mind that it is CASH only. The parking is usually supple but since lately it's been a bit tough, at times. My orders always consists of the small chicken hoy-ka noodle with fat noodle and mild spicy while my bf gets the large spare rib noodle with fat noodle and medium spicy. We then share a plate of pork ka prow with either broccoli or basil, depending on how we feel. As of lately, the bf's parents introduced the squid salad, it's delicious! The papaya salad is a no-go unless you are familiar with the thai papaya, wasn't quite feeling the pad see ew either. They are seriously known for their broth so stick to the soups! You can find me here at least once a week!
(5)Karen T.
We tried this place because Yelp reviewers said it was 1) cheap and 2) food was good. I would disagree with both. We came after the price hike so everything was $6-$8 dollars but the portions are not that big. We tried the boat noodle soup and drunken noodles. The boat noodles had a really strong flavor to it. I'm still debating if that was a good thing. The drunken noodles were greasy and really spicy even though we asked for it "mild." I don't plan on giving this place another try.
(2)Jerald C.
Hoy Ka noodle - flavors were great, portions were okay for a bowl of soup. We ordered the large, but its more like a regular at a pho shop. Ka Prao - awesomely cooked and flavored ground pork over white rice. Loved this dish because it reminds me of a dish my mom used to make me as a kid, plus I'm a fan of white rice. White rice might kill me one day. haha. Guay Teo Lod - heavy handed salt dish and over powering mushroom flavor. This could have been a great dish if the salt and mushroom flavors were turned down a notch. Bbq Pork, Crispy Pork and Gravy Over Rice - so sad, the dish I ordered was the one I disliked most the whole night. I love the crispy pork, but the bbq pork was dry and had no flavor to it. the $2 crispy pork is a must order item! I want to give this play another shot. I'll have to revisit it in a year.
(3)Bob C.
Of the items we had, the crispy pork with Chinese Broccoli was the best. The pad see Ew was also tasty, as was the boat noodles.
(4)Angie W.
Came for dinner & had a good experience. This place is good sized with a pretty good size menu focused on Thai noodles. We ordered the small boat noodles, crispy pork & drunken noodles. The best part hands down is the drunken noodles. So flavorful! The boat noodles were good, but too much fish sauce in the soup. We were pretty disappointed with the crispy pork. I was expecting like a tonkatsu (porkchop sized portion) but instead got a handful if chicharonnes. :( I'd come back to try other items :). The prices were really reasonable too. We got out of there with $20 for 2 of us. The service is pretty standard. I'd come back to try the pad thai & papaya salad :). Tip: Cash only.
(4)Jennifer Y.
"Get Thai boat noodles" My friend suggested to me Five dollah large bowl??? Good, flavorful broth Fat noodles--my favorite! Tons and tons of meat Oh, holy moly I ate here and I shed tears Noodles so spicy! Snot runs down my nose Pretend it's just allergies Stomach starts to burn Drink lots of water Let's hope I don't get "fire ass" I can't stop eating! My mouth is on fire Okay, fine! I surrender! Head down in defeat Food here is sooooo cheap I want Thai boat noodles now :( Oh, cash only, please
(4)Howesy L.
We sat down immediately and ordered pat Thai and drunken noodles. We noticed that our food was taking longer than most restaurants like 20-25 mins since we ordered. The food tasted good, but it was not filling for me (I can eat a lot). We saw this guy order take out when we sat down and the waiter came out and apologized, offering him a drink. We left the place and the guy was still waiting there, I think he was pretty pissed because he probably waited for like 45 mins already. So come here if you don't have other plans and don't mind waiting for your food.

Stopped by after looking for a place to eat and found this on Yelp. I am definitely a fan of the Hoy-Ka noodle soup - A (with pork and stuff). It's just the right amount of sour and spice (depending on how spicy you like it) and it is loaded with ingredients. It almost tastes like pad thai in soup form; I say almost, so don't expect pad thai in noodle soup. A large is only $5.50! Coming from Irvine, I deem that cheap cheap cheap. Love it. The only thing was my girl got the Tom Yum soup and we both ordered medium spicy. However, either hers came out mild or mine came out spicy (we think the former) but they were definitely two different levels of spice. The inconsistency was disappointing as it made the Tom Yum soup not have the spicy kick to blend with the sour. Overall, great place and I will definitely return.

I normally don't write reviews after one visit, however I don't visit this area often so here goes. I ask for the Tom yum seafood noodle soup mild spicy. It tasted authentic to me..I added extra chili sauce to the dish myself! It was so spicy I was dripping sweat...tasty though The squid and the shrimp were very fresh in the flavor packed broth. I shall return. Beware, staff doesn't speak English well.

BEST THAI FOODS in the Monterey Park - LA area!!! :) Very authentic Thai foods, very flavorful and fresh. Super friendly staff :) ALL of the Noodles Soup and their SOUP options are delicious! ($3.75 for small bowl & $6.50 for large) - A MUST TRY!! That's what they are known for is their flavorful authentic Thai soups! - you can order the small bowl and try many different types of noodle soups - Highly recommended: Drunken Noodles! The QUALITY foods here are amazing and everything is super affordable (ranges from $1 - $8) The Restaurant is pretty hidden (across from Garfield Hospital in Monterey Park) Look for the $10 clothing store in the front, it's inside the same plaza. Restaurant is surprisingly pretty spacious, Free WiFi, has a TV screen, cool AC, refreshing, and very casual. There are lots of loyal customers. Plus there are plenty of parking spaces. Ok - Enjoy! :) Fyi - * CASH only *

I ordered a NOT spicy food but i got the spicy one. The waiter just took the food and came back with the same food with more water. I guess they just recook the dish. I was so watery and i still saw the chili all over my food.
(1)Miss K.
Small noodle bowl for $3.75 is an awesome deal, but 2 were a bit too much food for me. Got the hoy ka & boat noodle. Mild made me sweat & blow my nose. & it's not just me! My friend who loves spice said the medium was barely edible. It's hard to taste anything w/ that much spiciness. The hoy ka was pleasantly sour tho. Beef in the boat noodle was tough. BBQ pork in the hoy ka bland. Got side order of crispy pork ka prao which was sitting in a pool of oil. Oh, & my friends really like the mango sticky rice.

Yes, I am bitter and angry. My office and I have been ordering take out here since they've been opened. Sometimes we order twice a week. I don't know if they have new management or need to hire more help, but the service has gone through hell in a hand basket. Every time we order, they tell us that it'll be ready in 15 minutes. LIES. We never go in 15 minutes and still wait. So a few days ago, we ordered hoyka noodles, boat noodles, and wonton BBQ pork noodles (in Thai). The order was repeated back to me perfectly. When the order was picked up, the boat noodles were missing. When confronted about the missing item, they apologized and said we weren't charged for it and had to pay for it. I was like what? We already paid $20 for the 2 other noodles. It turns out that the wonton BBQ pork noodles (which is under the noodle section on their menu by the way) is considered a soup for $8.50! And another $1 was charged for adding noodles. Really? We're in SGV, you can get this for $5 easily somewhere else for lunch. Anyhow, when the food finally gets to the office almost an hour later, one of the soup containers is cracked. Ugh. Can it get worse? Yes! The freakin $9 noodles portion was small like the size of my fist with had 4 wontons and a few pieces of pork. The broth was so salty and tasted like instant ramen seasoning. I was so disgusted and irritated. The boat noodle broth has gotten really sweet too for some reason. This hoyka location use to be legit but I don't know what happened. Hopefully the Thai Town location hasn't changed but I think I'll just go to Pa Ord's instead. They should change their name from hoyka to hoycall (hang my neck).
(1)Christine N.
Small whole in the wall with great food at an affordable price. What more can you ask for?!?! It is tucked away in the back corner of a small Asian strip mall. I would've never known it was there if my friend didn't recommend this place. They are known for their boat noodles which did not disappoint. I love that they offer two portion sizes for us girls who are on a diet.
(4)Jen Y.
Thai boat noodle #2 beef in mild spice is already spicy enough. Love the wholesome goodness of the broth!!!

Finally found a Thai Noodle restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley. Don't have to drive to Thai Town to get some authentic noodles anymore. I had a small bowl of the Boat Noodles and I asked for spicy. But God damn that shit was way too spicy! The noodles were still good, great flavor and spice, but next time, I'll put the chili powder in myself. A small bowl won't fill you up but its a good snack for $3.50. I also tried the Hoy Ka Noodles. The broth was good and a little bit sour. We had a side order of the Deep fried pork for $2. Very crispy and a great compliment with the noodles. The only bad thing was that my thai tea was full of ice. At least give me 1 free refill!?? Authentic, CHEAP, and close to home. I'll be coming back.
(5)Fonda K.
Good Thai Boat Noodles without driving to Thai Town.
(4)Julie H.
CHEAP & DELICIOUSSSSS Damn this place is crackin!! My favorite thai restaurant by far. They also have one in Thai Town on Hollywood. Anyway, I fucken LOVE their Hoy Ka noodles with pork. ~I can feel my mouth watering just talking about it~ I get it with the big noodles and medium spicy. I've tried it spicy and after a couple bites, I've used up all the napkins on the table for my snots. Damn that shit is spicy! My bf likes their pork belly on rice.... which is good too but I always order the Hoy Ka noodles. I've had their boat noodles too and its pretty good. Pad kee mow is good too. Service is friendly and they have a flat screen also. I like the fact that they have size options for their noodles....small or large. If you're going there for the first time, I'd get a small bowl of this and another small bowl of that so u can try more stuff. It's also a cash only place!!! BUT they have an atm machine inside if u forget, so don't trip. I'm here A LOT, almost every weekend....so it's safe to say that they're not always consistent. I've been there when the noodles weren't so great, so if that does happen to u.....U have to give it another try. Trust.
(5)van d.
Great Thai noodle in the area. Service is Ok but if the owner is there, she'll give you better service than her two employees. Their a-la-carte portion is a little small compares to the Hollywood location. Oh, make sure not to come after 1015 p.m. even though they are closing at 11:00 p.m. you'll be eating and smelling a very strong cleaning fume at the same time.
(4)Horacio F.
Seriously insane, insanely - GOOD. Not that it matters but I am Mexican and I have been invited to 4 Thai restaurants in the past and have since never bothered to eat Thai food again because I really did not enjoy the food at any of my PREVIOUS Thai outings. That said, I love the red curry pad thai and pad see you... HA! I don't know how to spell those but that is what they sound like. Hoy-Ka gave me an actual desire to try more Thai food, I don't know if I will only like the dishes I had then or if there are more I will like but thanks to Hoy-Ka I will give Thai food a few more shots. I gave the restaurant 4 stars because the food I had was excellent however the delicious Thai tea was mostly ice and not enough Tea.
(4)J M.
Very great prices. Hella hidden, better than Hollywood in the 626!! Duck noodles and crispy pork are gooooood, must try. CHEAP TOO~ CA$H ONLY I decided to give 5 stars because this type of place just doesn't exist outside of Hollywood unless you go to some boujy over priced place with ikea decor. i just want to eat, forget the ambiance. if that sounds like you, come here. i expect alot of food snobs with no experience in food other than type 2 diabetes to RAVE over this place. eat your heart out, and bring an SLR to post on your blog sucka
(5)Boris L.
order stir fried crispy pork with yellow curry. waited 20 mins, then found out they forgot my order, waited 15 mins again. got my food and it was bad... the pork was so dry... there was like no curry.
(1)Toni L.
OH MY... Food: This is what you're going to say once you're halfway through the bowl and your mouth, esophagus, stomach, and colon are all screaming in agony (ecstacy?) from the unbelievable spiciness. My boo tried the Thai Boat Noodles ( yelp.com/biz_photos/x6u_… ) while I opted for the less organ-filled Pork Spare Rib Noodles ( yelp.com/biz_photos/x6u_… ). The Boat noodles had a very rich and oily meat flavor, but the pork spare rib was pure deliciousness. The meat is cooked to perfection and falls off the bone into the soup. The broth is full of peanut chunks, plenty of oil, mung bean sprouts, and various bits of pepper and other spices. You also get to choose the kind of noodles (skinny, fat, flat sheets) in your soup. I always opt for the pillowy flat noodle sheets. If the spare rib noodle is out (often happens if you come early) you can always get the Hoy-Ka noodle soup which has the same broth and includes meatballs instead of ribs ( yelp.com/biz_photos/x6u_… ). Be forewarned, however. Even if you get the mild broth, your mouth is going to feel the spiciness after a few bites. It will BURN but you will not care because it tastes amazing. Make sure you get the large. You'll definitely end up eating it all if you are not overwhelmed by the spiciness. Atmosphere: You'd never find this place if you weren't already looking for it. This place is at the very back of a strip mall that protrudes off of the main street so you can't even see it until you have driven far back into the complex. The restaurant itself has two sections, a main restaurant and what looks like an overflow area for large parties. It's not the swankiest place, but at least it's clean and doesn't smell weird. Service: Almost gave this place four stars for this, but I guess it's passable. Prepare to be very vocal if you want anything or need to pay. There's a lot of stuff going on in here and it doesn't always involve you. Synopsis: Now I don't have to drive to Silverlake/Echo Park to get Thai noodle soup! I've already been back a couple times so I guess I consider this place one of my favorites.
(5)Sara N.
Although Thai food here is more authentic then Noodle World and Noodle Planet, they over spice their food. I've had the Crispy Pork with rice and that was WAY to spicy. When we ordered togo, our boat noodles was over sauced with fish sauce. Although they serve smaller portions at $3.50, they're not accurate with the flavoring of food. If you like things spicy, ask for medium. Upside - they do offer free wifi and it's in a secluded area so it's really easy to get fast service. For a quick cheap meal, I'd definitely go back.
(3)Miranda C.
This review is long overdue....my family and I have been coming to this location for years. It's our go to spot when I am too lazy to cook, lol. Anyways, great Thai food for the area. I love spicy food but when I come here, I order everything NO SPICE (just add it yourself) because even if you ask for mild, it comes out burn your lips spicy. Prices have gone up quite a bit since they opened but still reasonable.
(3)Brian S.
I remember the first time I tried this place. I'm always a tad skeptical when friends rave about things, so I went in with an open mind. I ordered a small bowl of Thai boat noodles with pork. After one bite, my life was changed forever. I'm now a regular, and I always order the boat noodles with pork! They are so delicious it's unbelievable. I've tried some other dishes, such as the Thai Western Sausage (also amazing), but keep coming back to the boat noodles because they're my personal favorite! Prices are very low, especially given the awesome quality of the food. Service is typical for an Asian restaurant in SGV, so please keep that in mind! I HIGHLY recommend this place! Also, for soups/dishes, order them 'medium' spicy because that's usually hot as hell, and that's coming from a guy who loves his spicy food.
(5)Linh C.
The food looks good, but it's just alright. Came here because it had 4 stars on yelp. We were the only customers in there. Our table did not have any settings. Our food took a while to come. We asked the waitress what she recommended and it was a horrible recommendation. She recommended crispy pork and rice. The pork stuck to our teeth because it was so sticky (old and oily tasting) not crispy at all. To add to that there was hair in that dish. Two stars for comping it, the hoy ka noodles, drucken noodles, and shrimp friend rice (that all had the same flavor). Never coming back.
(2)Vanida K.
My mom and I were in the area and she wanted Thai food so I went on yelp and searched around. This was one of the closest ones and it was open at the time so I took her here. To my surprise she's heard of this place on her Lao TV channels (haha) and had wanted to try it out. Being new to the area it was really hard to find, even with my GPS, but I eventually got there. Once inside, I had my mom order everything because I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat. Everything tasted great to me, but I've had better Tom Yum Koong. The noodle soups are my favorite and they are spicy! I love love love spicy food and usually when you say spicy at other places it's the opposite, being very mild. The prices are really cheap and the food is good. What's there not to love about this place?
(5)Khang D.
The food is so yummy. My new favorite place.
(5)Mike R.
They raised their prices! Same menus new design.
(4)Kien H.
YUMMAYZ. Food here is some of the best I've had. Everything is flavorful and well portioned. Although I will always love my quick Thai fix from Noodleworld, it simply cannot compete with Hoy-Ka in terms of authenticity and taste. Everything on menu is around $6. Cash-only and the restaurant is kind of hidden in a plaza. I never noticed it until my friend introduced it to me. Service is great and although the restroom is hygienically acceptable, it's kind of creepy due to lack of lighting. Go. That's all.
(4)Reilly C.
So glad to find a good Thai place in the area. I don't need to drive all the way to pa ord for good boat noodles!
(4)Joe C.
I've never been surround by so many Thai people all in one place! j/k Rephrase, I've never seen so many Thai people at a Thai restaurant. That's a good sign that the place is legit. I came with my friend and we ordered their house "Hoy-Ka" Noodle soup. What's up with the name? So weird. Doesn't that mean Clam's leg? My Thai is poor so I'm probably off because clams don't have legs..... or do they? "Things that make you go hmmmm" Food: Noodle soup. It was alright. It was a bit too flavorful. Is there such a thing? I just thought it was too rich, I like the spice. Maybe it was too much "Nam pla?" Som Tum aka papaya salad with crab. I came here just for this. If you ordered any papaya salad from other Thai restaurant they usually use dried shrimps but they're using this purple crab and I figured it would be exciting to try. Verdict? It was alright. Didn't really tasted that crab flavors. But I get it. These are probably better when it's fresh. Like smashing them while they're alive in a Thai mortar. My guess is the crab were bought frozen. I don't see these little suckers at 99 Ranch so I assumed you'd get them frozen. I was happy when i asked for sticky rice and they have it. I love Som-Tum with sticky rice. When I was a kid my mom always roll into a little ball and tell me to dip in the Sum-Tum sauce, "Joe jiep ya nee" (Joe, dip it like this)... aaww brought back fond memories. Yeah my mom is pretty great. My friend was in a super bitchy mood - I mean bitch mode. That can really f*** up you dining experience. "Can't be around her no more" (BTW it's quoted because I got the line from Chris Rock) She's a friend and she has a reason to be moody. Service: I think it was the owner who took our order. She was very friendly, even was nice enough to compliment that my friend's pretty like she was my gf. The owner was disappointed when we only took a bite from the salad, "What? It wasn't good? what's wrong?" Me: "No, no it was fine just that she's in a bitch mode right now. It's not the food it's her". That's what I really wanted to say, but I didn't. The address on the Yelp is incorrect. On Yelp it said 230 N. Garfield. But when I called she said 310 N. Garfield. If you're heading south from the 10 fwy and you've passed Garvey you've gone too far. It's located in a plaza before a 210 medical building heading south. "Hey this isn't gps, it's yelp only review food!" Sorry voices in my head keep interjecting I put that on ignore every so often. Giving shout out to Nida for check-in here so I know a cool Thai place when I'm too lazy to drive to Hollywood. To Peter who internet stalk me via Yelp and FB. To Linsey who's working hard doing taxes for Michael Balton. Yes Mississippi Mud at Baskin Robbin is the bomb. Now for sure Yelp going to delete this review. "Smile at a stranger today, it might be the only sunshine he sees all day"
(3)Aerin K.
Came back here again on Saturday and the noodle was better than last time so I decided to come AGAIN yesterday. Okayy...do they have different people making the noodles? I swear yesterday's noodle was NOTHING like what it tasted on Saturday which was like a day apart. Guess it was the wrong day to come. So I'll review my experience on Saturday which was much much better than yesterday. I ordered the usual dry hoy ka and boat noodle(best of both worlds) small and MILD spicy of course and fresh coconut! The best meal for the hot humid day
(4)Cindy W.
Terrific Thai Noodles! Really yummy pad see ew! Seriously, a bunch of us eat this place like once a week. This place is great for the food. Thai noodles in soup is good, with your choice of small bowls or regular. This place is a hole in the wall, a gem hidden in the corner of a shabby plaza on Garfield near Garvey. Parking is never a problem and you rarely have to wait for a table. I highly recommend the #1 with pork (a) or chicken (b) in a small or regular size and pair it with a pad see ew order. The standard is beef or chicken for the pad see ew, but I like to get it with the crispy pork! Soooooo delicious! As for the noodles, you can choose to have egg noodle or the wide rice noodle. Or heck! Order a small of both for variety! This place is cheap and delicious!! But do order mild if you like a kick. Even the mild can get very spicy depending on the mood of the chef that day. The only reason this place is missing just one star is that although the service is good, sometimes you don't get exactly what you order. I mean, you won't order rice and get noodle, but maybe sometimes you'll order mild and they'll give you medium spicy, or instead of a small bowl you get a regular bowl. Not huge problems but just not perfect, ya know? Not sure if its a communication problem with the person taking your order, or if the chef just skips the detail that day. I'd say 1 out of 5 times, there's a slight hiccup in you order. But, it's so tasty here that a hiccup won't stop me from coming back!
(4)Pete P.
I thought this place was good. However, I had to wait quite a bit to place my order. Their crispy pork and greens are very tasty (their mild was a bit spicy for me). Also, their pad see ew was good. I will definitely go back to try their other dishes now that I am living back in this area.
(3)David W.
I used to come to this hole-in-the-wall on a regular basis because they had pretty good Tom Yum Noodle Soup and Hoy-Ka Noodles, and the prices were good. My original rating for this place was 4 stars, but I've decided to drop it down to 2 stars. Ever since they changed owners, the food tastes completely different. The soup is now bland and dish is tasteless. The dishes just don't taste very good anymore, it just plain sucks now compared to when the previous owner ran this place. I used to come here on a weekly basis, but now I haven't been back in about 2 years since the new owner took over. It's too bad, it was a good restaurant and I really enjoyed dining here. This WAS probably the only authentic Thai restaurant in Monterey Park that I liked.
(2)Richard I.
Went there with my family. We received a flyer in the mail. It was very hard to find. The flyer was very colorful and modern. In reality the restaurant is very dirty and run down. The food was very expensive and very small portions.
(1)Fransisco J.
Ordered for for delivery which took more than an hour even though my house is 2 minutes away. Food was good though.
(2)Jolieann H.
I love spicy Thai food and have eaten at many thai places. And this restaurant serves some dishes as good as Thai food can get. I love their boat noodles, extra spicy (warning: they cook some extremely spicy stuff here, so if you don't eat spicy too well, just order mild, trust me!) Price is really decent, you can ask them to add more stuff with extra charge. I would drive 25 miles every other week to come here to have my spicy boat noodles fix. That's how good this place is. One catch: Parking is horrible in this plaza. And make sure to double check your bill. It's not a surprise if they miscalculate the totals!!!
(4)Jen J.
Beware! When you ask for mild, that is not what you're getting. It's going to be SPICY! My tummy still hurts! Ordered: hoy ka chicken noodles & papaya salad.
(2)Thuy T.
I came here around 9pm and it was pretty much the only litted building in the plaza. We had a party of 10, so we got the private room. I was recommended the pad see ew and it was so good! We all shared the tom yum soup and that was really good as well. I was advised to order a mild because it can be really spicy! I can't wait to come back again to try their other dishes!
(4)Joy C.
I really like that the hoy ka and boat noodles are only $4! I think it's family run so service is a bit spotty. If you like spicy food, order mild because the food is insanely hot.
(4)Elton W.
Great pad kee mao. Spice level very high. Best Thai I have had in the area.
(4)Ms. Edna T.
Can I get an order of Hoy Ka noodles, sen lek, NOT spicy, and no liver please! $3.50? sweeet! Delicious and affordable! The papaya salad is also VERY tasty! yum!
(4)Maew S.
I've heard about this place from a Thai friend who's usually very critical with her "noodles." However, due to a hidden location in an unidentified strip mall in the area dotted with yummy Asian holes in the wall, I missed it every time I drove by. But not last night! So, I ordered the noodle dish that if they do it right, they win, Boat Noodle with beef. In less than 5 minutes, the noodle was served. Before I'd put any condiments, I tasted the soup and oh boy, it's so rich and full of flavor. I had to put in more chilli and vinegar anyway (as I'm Thai, and we put chilli in everything!). Vegetables (ong choi & bean sprouts, common choices for Thai boat noodle) were on a skimpy side, but their meat was PLENTY for a $5 bowl! The beef was so tender and what I love the most are those juicy pieces of liver! Oh... why that face? If you don't eat those stuff, just tell them you don't want it and hopefully, they'll substitute with more beef balls. On the other hand, I missed the mixed green chilli vinegar from Noodle World (they only have the clear vinegar with sliced green chilli here). But with this good soup, the price, and now that I know where it is, I'd rather come here than going to Noodle World. Another good thing about this place is they're open late. Their hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 11pm. They're closed on Monday. For those who prefer rice dishes, they also have plenty. I'll sure go back!
(4)Wesley W.
Okay, I decided to give this place another try for the boat noodles. They were just okay and flavorful but can't get over the lack of decent service. They need to work on their customer service. Timing of food delivery is horrible. They deliver one bowl then come out 5 minutes later and deliver the next. I saw a group of 8 get served over a 15 minute span. Restaurant Impossible would have a field day with these guys. The noodles were okay and tasty but portion was small. I can't get over the service issues. I just can't give this place a thumbs up.
(2)Mili A.
I read all the great reviews about this place and decided to try it out this past weekend. Bad idea!! The food was not good!! I tried the Thai Boat Noodle and it was gross. The Papaya salad was not good either. The place itself looks kind of dirty. Plus, they have a "B" grade. Lesson learned.
(1)Jennie V.
CASH ONLY!!! I do not normally go for thai food..if I do, I would get things that are very common...like pad thai or pad seew...I came here because many mention the really cheap price...but I still got a large instead...very good price still. I ask for mild on my thai boat and man it was spicy...so the second time I said NO SPICY...lol and added some chili to my liking. I came the second time with a group of friends...we got pad thai...pad seew..hoyka special and beef ball noodle..everything was pretty good..the portions were good..just right not too big not too small
(3)Emma W.
AMBIANCE/ENVIRONMENT: average SERVICES: unenthusiastic waitress FOOD: watery curry, slightly below average RECOMMENDATION: move along, try a different thai restaurant
(1)Robert G.
Awesome boat noodles!
(4)Margaret L.
Get the tums ready because this place really knows how to dole out the spices. I love the noodles from Ord in Thai town so I figured I would give this place a shot. The soup base is not as good as Ord but it definitely quenches my craving and is definitely more accessible. I got their Hoy-Ka noodles and the flavor and noodles were great, and of course super spicy. I also tried their Crispy Pork but unfortunatley it was slathered in some kind of sauce, so they weren't that crispy any more, but they were still good. The Ground Pork and Basil Over Rice was also pretty good and the soup base from the Thai Boat was also delish. I definitely will be returning to Hoy-Ka again.
(4)Samira H.
The food at this little hole-in-the-wall is great! Last week, my boyfriend and I tried Ord Hoyka in Hollywood and thought we'd Hoy Ka in Monterey Park since it's closer to home. Our favorite dish is the Crispy Pork with Chinese broccoli. We also ordered pad thai with beef, but the meat was overcooked. Their Thai tea is also delicious. The wait staff is nice, and the atmosphere isn't overwhelming. Although we cleared our plates (for what might have been the first time ever), we both agreed that the quality of the food at Ord Hoyka in Hollywood is a little better. Overall, it was a good experience and I'm sure we'll be coming back.
(4)Xing M.
Hole in the wall Thai food place. Their small noodle dishes are very good at awesome prices! We are talking about around $20 for two main entrees and two side noodles! This can be a great lunch place during my busy day at work. They are fast and great! Solid food! Pro: 1. Descriptive menu items 2. Price 3. $3.50 small noodle dishes 4. Crispy Pork! 5. Friendly service Con: 1. Nothing outstanding
(4)Kim C.
I used to be a regular there. Lately they've been messing up the customers orders. Theirs 2 owners there. The female owner there sold her shared and left the restaurant. She's planning to open her own Thai restaurant. For the past several months, for example, if you order #5, you'll get #9. No matter how you emphasize, you will still get #9 although you order #5. Today was the last straw. Plus their food is not good like it used to be. Whatever you order on the menu, you will get something totally different. Is like they don't listen to the order you give them. It seems like they'll give you what they feel like giving you. Lately they've been making so many mistakes on your order. Seems like they always change from whatever you order of the menu. Very bad! Bad service, the worst portion ever. It's like you have to order a 2nd dish to make yourself full. Not cool, I used to give them 5 stars, now 1 star. Their lucky I even gave them 1 star. #1. The portion is like for a 2 yr old child. #2. The food is not good anymore. #3. The service is so poor. #4. Can't get your order right.
(1)J. K.
My friend told me about this place and since I live right around the corner it was just a hop, jump, and skip away. Come for their signature Hoy Ka noodles... mmmmm .. It is the bomb!!!!! Their pad thai is also superb. My friend had their papaya salad with fried salted pork.. she really thought it was something.. When you look around most of their diners are Thai.. a great sign. Let's keep this lil mom and pop restaurant alive! I'd come here for take out or for a quick bite. Watch out for their different hot sauces! They are kickin hot! I like the one that looks like salsa verde.
(4)Karen L.
after reading some good reviews on this restaurant, i decided to give it a try. i ordered pad see ew to-go and i was super dissapointed. food was rather bland, they are not generous at all with the meat / vege. ( there was only 3 small pieces of chicken). Service was average. the total came out to $7.55. Their togo box is half of a regular size to go box. for that price i can get 2x the amount of food and way better quality at Krua Thai or any other thai restaurant. im never coming back.

good food.

I once got food poisoning from eating a bowl of noodles being sold off a canoe boat in one of Thailand's famous floating markets. Despite the massive diarrhea that I subsequently suffered, I still tell people that that bowl of noodles I had was one of the best I had in Thailand. It was (almost) worth it. Hoy Ka gives me the same bowl of noodles without the food poisoning. I couldn't believe it when a friend recommended this place, I tasted their Hoy-Ka Noodle, and it immediately brought back memories of the flavors from that first ill-fated bowl. Simply put, the noodles here are VERY good and my gf and I simply cannot get enough. The flavors from the broth, the spices, even the veggies, all combine to form a sublime bowl of noodles bursting with flavors, spices, textures, and..SPICY. Yeah, the noodles are REALLY spicy. But that's only if you come in trying to be a hero asking for "Spicy" when they ask you how spicy you want your noodles. Their spicy meter here actually works, unlike alot of other Thai restaurants. If you're not used to spicy food, just ask for "mild" and you should be able to enjoy the flavor of the noodles without the chili overpowering it all. I notice some of the other Yelpers here giving negative reviews because of how spicy the food is. That's a bit unfair. It's called "authentic food." Some Thai food is spicy. Either deal with it or ask them to lower it beforehand, but don't judge solely based on that. I've had the Hoy-Ka Noodle and the Boat Noodle. Whereas the Hoy-Ka has fish sauce, sweet, and sour flavors, the Boat Noodle has more of a deep, pungent, beefy, and aromatic taste to it. Try to stick with the ground pork version for both because the chicken can be dry and stale sometimes (although beef works with the Boat). Also try their $2-$3 order of crispy pork. It adds a little something to the noodles. Their pad thai and rice with crispy pork and basil is just average. The Tom Kha Gai is also very flavorful. Service is mediocre, they pretty much just take your order. I hope this place gets more business because it would be a shame to lose such a gem. Food - 5/5 Service 2.5/5 Value - 5/5 Ambiance 3/5

Oh man, I LOVE THIS PLACE. I was going thru a major pho phase, until I was introduced to the magic wonderfulness of Thai Boat noodles. Now I'm going thru a major thai boat noodle phase...for the last 2 months and present. I usually get the thai boat without liver!! and with a side order of crispy pork ($2). I am a happy camper. Hoy Ka is great, for their price and flavor. I've also been to the one in Hollywood...don't know if it's the same thing but still good!

Place is decent! I had the boat soup with egg noodles. Yummy flavorful broth and would recommend to anyone who likes spicy noodles. NOT for people who cannot eat spicy, like myself. I ordered mild, couldn't finish my meal because I was blowing my nose and my throat hurt because it was too hot. Prices are great. Large bowl of noodles is decent sized and only $5. Small is $3.50 and great for a snack! Their sausages are pretty delicious if i say so myself. Service is meh. There's a back area near the restrooms I assume you can have for a group of 15-20 people, but since the restrooms are there it isn't as private as you want it to be.

Considering the location of the restaurant, it is a cheap 5-star restaurant. (Probably a four-star if located in Thai Town) What is most important to me for Thai restaurants is whether their food tastes like what I get from Thailand. I definitely give this place a pass :) - Most Authentic Thai noodle around the area - Save me a lot of time when I do not feel like driving to Thai Town. There are lots of Thai restaurant around SGV, even if the dishes are alright, the noodle soups aren't the greatest since they are not noodle soup specialty restaurants, most soup aren't Thai Town quality (Too much MSG or some soup powder base rather than broth that are made with fresh ingredients, cow bones, blood etc). Hoy-Ka is the only one around the area. Their papaya salad is also good. Even though it is not specified in the menu, you can ask for salty crab with the papaya salad, just like what you could get in Thai town. Even though the small noodle soup is very small (as compared to the regular/small size noodle at Vietnamese Pho restaurants), nonetheless, you can't beat that $3.5 price. I normally order a large since the large noodles are similar size to what other restaurants serve, though having the option to order mini noodle is great, especially when I love variety. It is similar to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, so do not expect the attention/service you would get from a nice restaurant. (The waitresses have always been nice and polite to me.) However, what do you expect when you pay three bucks for a noodle? Be realistic.

Noodle Noodle Noodle. It's good and it's 5 dollars, what else can you ask for. Their mild is spicy to me so order accordingly. Love the noodle, like the pad see u. Not a fan of seafood fried rice. Instead of putting some real seafood there, I get a lot of 'fish balls'... kind of odd if you tell me. $2 Crispy Pork goes well with the noodle.
(4)Chau V.
I'm not sure if this is the same as the one in Hollywood. Is it? Well, I like this place. First, parking is a easy breezy. Second, way bigger restaurant. Third, the noodle tastes the same.
(4)Mari L.
I was torn for the longest on how I wanted to rate this place. Food wise it was a 4.5 star. It's about as good as it gets in the Sgv for good Thai foods. Their mild spicy is a good kick in the mouth and goes great with a nice glass of iced thai tea. The noodle soups are delish and I love their papaya salad. Now for the bad, I've been here around 5 times. Each time the services is just as bad as before, if not worse. But we go back thinking maybe they had an off day even though there's only 1-2 tables besides ours. For a new business that's trying to survive in this area they should try harder.

Authentic thai food. Great prices average about $5-6 for a bowl of noodle soup. Real thai cusomers. The first time i came here was about a month ago, got lost looking for it. If you have the address and google map it, google map will tell you its at the corner of garvey/ garfield. It is NOT on garvey. Stay on Garfied. Its hidden in a plaza, closer towards the garfield hospital. So I ordered the Boat noodle, was good, however the waitress confused what mild and medium meant. Everyone that order medium spicy was less spicy then the mild. She had our spicy levels reversed... This kinda killed the meal for me, since i wasnt able to finish eating. Flavoring was good for the price... But the overly spiciness just ruined the dish. Ended up telling the lady which looked like the manager/ owner about the mix up, giving them a chance to correct her waitress and not let it happen next time. The lady apologized and was very nice about it. 2nd chance- Yes, I was brave enough to come back, giving another chance for them to redeem themselves. I order duck noodle soup this time and especially made sure they don't super spice my soup again. it was yummy. They also offered dessert. But was too full to try it. I noticed they had more noodles soups then stirred fried dishes.

I have to say I like the food here. I'm a spicy noodle lover and this hits the spot when I have the cravings. Come here if you want some good thai food. Good place if you want to snack because the portions are pretty small. The portions are priced reasonably, 5 bucks for large and 3.50 for small. I ordered a large and the bowl is probably the size of a small bowl of Pho with lesser noodles and meat. I can't imagine how small their small is, probably a size of a rice bowl...

Great place for Thai noodles! The broth is extremely flavorful and I love how you can pick the noodle size (thin vs thick). In terms of spiciness, this is an authentic Thai restaurant, so I got medium spiciness from a Thai friend's recommendation. It was plenty spicy without taking away from the flavors. I'm definitely going back to try different noodles. The crispy pork rice dish is delic too!

I have. Noodle soup. And green curry. Very good. I saw someone complained. About price you go to Mc Donald. Just hamburger almost 5 I used to pay my rent 550. Now I pay. 975. Come on. !

Pad Thai was ordinary, nothing special.

Was bad waitress don't understand what i'm ordered..... I ordered crab papaya salad so i got thai papaya salad.... then i got pickled fish papaya salad ....so very very bad bad bad food that i ever had ...the taste is not the same the original place in L.A
(1)Steve L.
I've tried numerous thai places in San Gabriel Valley; this place is as authentic as you can get...and its cheap cheap cheap.. This hole in a wall place has excellent boat noodles...just like what I had in Thailand. Try their $3.5 fishball boat noodles and their $1.50 thai tea. Now I need that great massage to go with my noodle..
(5)Rachel C.
This was a different experience of Thai food for me. I tried the Hoy-Ka Noodle with the thick noodles and it was delicious! I didn't much care for the liver in it though. I am very used to eating liver being that I am Chinese and grew up in China. Still their liver retains too much of its original liver taste which I could do without. I ordered medium spicy but my lips were on fire. So if you are used to American spicy, order your noodles mild. :P

Just came here today because of the Yelp reviews. Wow I can't believe I never notice this place and I live 1 minute drive away, hahaha but anyways everyone was raving about the cheap prices but now the whole price changed on the menu? The only price I see for the cheapest thai bowl noodle is $5.50 I had it to-go but the size of it was pretty small... Anyways everyone was talking about the Crispy Pork.. I really wanted to try it but $8 for sideorder?!??! where is the price you guys are talking about... yet this was the togo menu maybe eatting there is different? I'll try and go actually sit down and eat there and see for myself.

Came here Friday night at around midnight after a really long drive from Norcal. We had the house noodle, the pad thai, and the crispy pork rice. My fave was the crispy pork rice dish while the rest was just OK (slightly below average). Thai fast food, what do you expect? Not bad tho. VERY cheap total was $20. Opens late!

I ordered the Hoy-Ka thai noodles and it came with 2 stands of hair. Awesome way to start off my meal. Service here is pretty terrible because the waitresses walk around with tunnel vision so you have to yell to get their attention. They definitely will not refill your water unless you ask them to do so. Also, when you pay the bill make sure you get the correct change back because one of the waitresses definitely failed a math class. As for the food, I have to admit the hoyka noodles were quite tasty. It was sweet, spicy, and sour at the same time. I ordered medium spicy and it almost had me sweating so order mild if you don't have spicy tolerance. Also, I wished the soup broth was a bit hotter and that they gave more noodles. The large was basically a regular size that you see at other restaurants except they don't give much noodles. Since there were some people here that raved about the $2 crispy pork I gave that a try. I personally am not a fan of it but it's only $2 so you can give it try if you like. It's really dry and crunch so if you're into that stuff go for it. I don't think I'll be coming back here due to the poor service and hairs in my noodles. Also, for a new restaurant, their booths are quite dirty. Don't lean your head back unless you want your hair to be soaked in a patch of oil. I recommend sitting at the tables.

I wonder how this place doesn't get crowded all the time just because it deserves it! Me and my cousin came here to try out their ord noodle #1 and crispy pork with rice. And we totally love this place! I went to the Hollywood one before and I think both places are as good! Lastly, their prices are very reasonable. $4 for the super yummy ord noodle is the best deal!

OH MY GOSH!!! seriously the most delicious thai noodles i have ever had... EVER! serious thai flavors. bursting from the broth. when i heard about this place, i made my friend take me. well.. more like i picked him up, drove him the restaurant, and made him wait 30 minutes with me until the placed opened; he protested, but i would not relent. so basically, i forced him to come with me. but it was sooooo worth it! he told me they were known for their hoyka noodles, boat noodles, and crispy pork. i got the hoyka noodles, #1. pork. with small noodles, in the small sized bowl, spicy spicy (all for $3.50 BABY!). WOW. the spicy was soooo good. the thing that made me love it more was that the spiciness of the broth didn't overpower the other flavors in it. you could still taste the slight acidic-y lemoniness, and garlicy-ness of the broth. the spicy was... spicy. i recommend getting a mild spicy if you're not a lover of the burn. it burns so good snot will be dripping from your nose. sorry for the visual. but that's how you know your chili's are workin'. i also got a side order of the crispy pork for $2!~!! score!! the pork was soo....crispy. my favorite part was of course the fatty layer of skin...MMMMM. when you take a bite.. you won't be able to stop. dip it in your soup and let the crispy skin soak in the well-flavored broth and take a bite. you'll love it. trust me. i loved it so much that i ordered one to go. AND i came back a second time... IN THE SAME DAY. i think they were laughing at me. but that's okay. i've got no shame. i wish it was a little more busy though. sometimes it's quiet, and it makes me feel like that is such a shame. this place really is a hidden jem. tucked away in the corner of a small plaza that's not too often frequented. it is worth the trip. i will be bringing everyone i know there.

"Hoy-Ka is like a snapshot from a busy bangkok restaurant street...the exposed brick-and-glass mezzanine seems upmarket, but it's actually casual, fun and good value, with rotating street food menus throughout the day and night... love it""""^^
(5)G H.
I like their crispy pork and rad na. The hoyka noodle is good, my kids love it but it's not my favorite. The price is cheap but the portion is small.
(4)Andrew T.
A good Thai noodle place, especially for the SGV. All the Thai restaurants in the area seem to be more geared towards the pad thai and beef penang crowd. But when I visited Thailand, it seemed like the locals ate more noodles in soup and rice plates, which is why you come to Hoy Ka. After moving too far away from Sapp, I've been looking for a local hangover cure, and this is it for the time being. Their boat noodles aren't much like Sapp's except for the bits of offal (no pork rinds though!), but it is still solid and spicy.

LADY OWNER READ THIS!!! If you're not going to serve or ignore paying patrons, tell them when they first walk in! Absolutely horrendous service; I couldn't not wait to get home to review this place. After first visiting this place with my friend after golf, I thought this place was deserving of 3.5-4 stars. What the owner did tonight was appalling. I hope she reads this and fixes her attitude about the way she treats her customer. I took my GF here tonight on a whim because we were hungry and passing by. We were seating right by the left entrance and sat there with the menu. The owner (lady in the adverts, assuming she's the owner) passes us by 9 times, no joke, with no acknowledgment, no hi, nothing!! That was fine we were wiling to let it go. We asked the young lady for help and she took our order. Then the order came.....The owner had the audacity to drop the bowl of noodles on edge of our table and hastily left. Get this, DROPS, slam, tossed, I can't even come up with a word for her action. She didn't tell us which was which (fine we can figure it out). She dropped it off and left. The Hyo-Ka Noodles they are famous for was warm, not hot like broth is suppose to be, but warm-lukewarm. TERRIBLE. The Thai boat was super thick and barley had any broth, it seem like the ran out of food and just gave us left over or tossed some crap together, I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THIS WERE ACTUALLY THE CASE. Oh and here's the 'coup de grace.' I go to pay and the bill is $9.25, I give her a $20 and she gives me back a $10. She had the audacity to tell me she doesn't have any change??? Are you kidding me? She actually was trying to RIP ME OUT OF $0.75? Really?? After the service THE OWNER gave to us, she doesn't deserve the $9.25. What we should have done was walk away from the very beginning like our gut feeling had told us. However hunger and evolution tends to make you eat what ever is available.

Yes, this hole-in-the-wall gets 5 stars! Excellent Boat noodles, and the papaya salad with crispy pork was amazing. I can't believe I don't have to travel far for the authenticity. Other than the great tasting food, the prices are very affordable. I'll be back!

This place serves authentic Thai food. I typically order their noodles, but be careful when you ask for very spicy. It's based on a thai scale

Today i wanted to try a new place to eat...so i went to Hoy-Ka. Took my mom there to eat dinner. When we got there it was pretty empty..we ordered our food. We ordered thai boat noodle...i had a large and my mom have the small. and we order fried beef balls as an appetizer...so the boat noodle came. my mom complained about how salty it was...it was just whatever to me. it tasted just alright....i think after 30 min into our meal the place was starting to get busy and all the table were taken...i requested one of the lady for our check..waited for about 15 min; i figured i rest my stomach and since the lady was busy i didnt want to bother her. So..we waited and waited ..until the lady said "oh we lost your check" like WTF ! why didnt you just asked me what i ordered 15 min ago ! -- would i go here again?. its very iffy....food wasnt great , service was the same.

I stopped by here for a meal with one of my buddies after a cold afternoon of fishing... the Hoy Ka noodles seemed like just the right thing to eat. We ordered it medium spicy but WOW - this truly is an authentic place. Fire out the ears!!! Anyway - the base broth flavor was a nice balance of sweet and savory and all the fish balls and cakes were fresh tasting. The papaya salad, which I order at any Thai restaurant, met my expectations. The stir fry crispy pork dish is pretty good, but I didn't get a fried egg like it shows in the pictures. The chopped beans portion is less flavorful than I imagined... it really could have used more fish sauce. Either way, I'd likely come back as there were many other delicious sounding dishes on the menu I'd like to try. Major bonus: They have fresh young coconuts for only something like $2... i LOVE fresh coconut water so this really made me happy.

I took a couple of my nephews, who used to live near the border of Thailand and Laos, out to lunch, and they said that they missed eating Thai noodle soup that you can buy off a boat near their home. I had no idea what they were referring to and I yelped this place and went for it. The place is a hole in the wall, but the food is good and worth trying out. I didn't really care too much for the green curry chicken, but I had a bowl of the "boat noodles" and it was delicious. It looked a little like pho, but the flavor is very different. It starts off tasting like a savory beef broth, then some sweetness hits you, followed by a lime chaser. It's very good and I recommend it. My nephews say that compared to their country, this Thai noodle soup dish was a little on the sweet side, but they still enjoyed their meal nevertheless. Yay for my vague, yet insightful nephews!

Found out about this place from the Noodle Whore on Eat, Drink and Be Merry. He put up pictures of a rice dish, Holy Basil and Crispy Pork, as well as Boat Noodle Soup and Tom Yum Noodle Soup. I'd been looking for a place like this: (1) near work, (2) inexpensive, (3) comprehensive, (4) unapologetically spicy, and (5) excellent, so that I can delve more deeply into my study of Thai cuisine. I intend to go here once a week and eventually try everything on their menu. It is four-star worthy so far. Took my sister, brother-in-law, nephew and my girl friend. Everyone had, more or less, the same things; and everyone was very happy. And in pain. Man, when we asked for "Thai spicy," they drew no punches. My stomach still kinda burns from the sheer hotness of it. Very nice folks. You gotta ask for the fried egg on the rice dishes; otherwise, they don't give it to you. I think their business hours are: 11am-11pm. Will report back with an update once my lessons have deepened. It's at the far end, on the right side, of an otherwise under-patronized strip mall. Main signage is in Thai, with English painted on the window. It was pretty crowded, and all the other patrons were Thai, which is always a good sign. Don't miss out!

I was excited to try this place especially since it appeared to have more unique Thai dishes than the usual Pad Thai and curry entrees. Anyways, I ordered the crispy pork kra pau with an egg on top. It was good within the first few bites, but it got really spicy afterward. I couldn't even finish it because it was THAT spicy. I ordered medium, so I suggest you order mild. I'm speaking as a person who can usually handle her spicy foods. One last thing...the pork was not pork. A majority of it was fried FAT. I don't mind the fat in a few of my pieces, but to just eat fried fat and skin with little meat? I'm not paying $ for that. I tried my friend's duck noodle soup dish and that was okay, but I was disappointed by the texture and chewiness of the noodles. The noodles seemed too hard and undercooked. Will I be coming back here? Meh.
(2)Diane W.
I'm a big fan of the Hoy Ka noodle soup. This is by far the best place to eat Authentic Thai style noodle soup in the area (other than driving all the way out to Thai Town). You can order a small bowl for only $3.50 or get a large bowl (regular sized) for $5.50. I've also had the Boat noodle soup, which is also pretty good but I'm more of a fan of combination style soups. I love the Hoy Ka Pork noodle special because it combines all the flavors I love at once: salty, sweet, sour and spicy all at once. It has everything in it that I love: shrimp, beef balls, pork pieces, ground pork, fish cake, tons of garlic and spices etc. You can also get it with chicken instead if you prefer. And I always make sure to ask for the big fat white noodles minus the liver. You can also add a small side of crispy fried pork for $2, which is a great addition to your soup. The only thing that kind of bothers me is that I've been here quite a few times already and I always manage to sit in the same exact table, and the same waiter who always takes my order.... still never remembers what I want by now. Sadly, they are never busy either. I'm worried that they wont survive and I'll have to go in search of some other alternative for Thai noodle soup.
(4)Selena H.
Hardest place to find as it is in the back corner of a sleepy plaza normally filled with office/retail rather than restaurants. Came here on a late sunday and surprisingly it was packed! they have a nice side room which enables large groups which is a plus. after looking thruogh an extensive and authentic menu, settled on my usual of beef pad see ewe. The flavors are very authentic as you can taste some of the spices that may scare people with non-asian food tastes. They have some very very spicy dishes so do be careful. for the price and the quantity of food, well worth it.
(4)Jamie C.
If it wasn't cash only, I'd give the place a 5 stars. Really good Thai tea and the best Thai noodle I've tasted so far. Pricing is super cheap for Thai food and with just $20 I can try more than 4 dishes with a side of Thai tea. Definitely made this place a regular for me.
(4)Josh B.
Good quality Thai food. Thai owned and operated, what else can I say??
(4)Dorothy X.
I absolutely love Hoy-Ka. Whenever I have a hankering for burn-your-tongue-and-possibly-your-butt spicy noodle soup for only $3.50, I come on over to this place. It's not only the taste that gets me, but the prices as well. My friend, being Thai himself, first recommended we come here for his birthday. He ordered the boat noodle soup. "Boat noodles made of pork blood? Repulsive!" I scrunched up my nose, and ordered the Hoy Ka Noodle soup (which is essentially tomyum). BUT, once his boat noodles came and I tried it, the taste was so strong and flavorful that it overpowered my tomyum noodles and I didn't want anything else but the boat noodles. You really can't taste the pork blood; it looks just like really dark broth with so much seasoning. You can choose the type of meat you want (pork, beef or chicken), and the bowl comes with meat balls and liver. You can also choose the type of noodles you want (pho, egg noodles, flat rice noodles) and the level of spiciness (mild, medium, spicy). Being a spicy lover myself, I was tempted to order the highest level, but my friend convinced me that medium would be enough, and it really was. This place adds a crapload of chili peppers to the noodles, and unless you want your tongue and throat burning to the point where you are no longer enjoying your food, stick with the MEDIUM. It's still pretty spicy at medium, but at least you are tasting the food. The bowls come in small ($3.50) and large ($5.00), and if you don't specify which size you want they will give you small by default. The sizes are not that much different, I'd say it's a handful more for large. You can also choose to add crispy pork to your noodles, which comes in a separate small bowl. It's not in the menu so you'll have to ask for it yourself. It's an extra $2 to your noodle price. Other foods I've tried are the Thai Western Sausages (slightly sour and salty, you wrap it in raw cabbage and peanuts), fried meat balls (these were okay), crispy pork with chinese broccoli (so crispy!), and the pad thai (pretty typical). Service is normally not bad, but I recommend double checking your bill when it comes because once I got charged for an extra bowl of noodles that I did not order. Parking should be easy to find, since the restaurant is located at the end of a plaza where most businesses have closed down and the only thriving one seems to be the travel agency next door. You can also park on the other side of the lot as well.
(5)Shelly L.
Pad Thai, pad se ew (you know what I'm talking about), and panang curry are absolutely delicious. Note! food eaten there during the afternoon tastes different than their food at night. I prefer the night cook. Prices are decent as well. Lastly, they're open late, so that's a plus.
(5)May V.
New chef in town so flavors are definitely more stable as of late. If you're looking for the more typical, Americanized style of Thai food, this place is not for you. Closer to authentic then most other places - boat noodles, hoy ka, rad na with a soupier sauce...you've come to the right place! All of the above are recommended including the papaya salad (ask for the one with shrimp on top!). Their idea of a little spicy is definitely spicy so don't be afraid to ask for mild - you can always add your own spice from the condiment jars on each table. CASH ONLY and way worth it!!

I've been to this restaurant more than 5 times, and each time I've ordered similar dishes. While the flavor is pretty good, the dish's taste, portion, and ingredients have been inconsistent. This place comes across to me like an Asian owned restaurant that just simply does not know how to operate on American standards. Whoever the chef is has "winged it" and substituted ingredients that should not have belonged. I've ordered glass noodles that all of a sudden had really bitter tasting vegetables that were never included before. I've also ordered "not spicy" but the waiter must have misunderstood and gave me "spicy" because the dish came out so spicy it was inedible. Like other reviews, the service is extremely slow. I've been pretty forgiving with this restaurant because it was pretty tasty at one point that I craved the food, but after so many disappointments, I won't be going back anytime soon.

A good friend of mine recommended me to this place and it has been one of my favorite Thai place ever since. I'm not an expert when it comes to Thai food, but Hoy Ka definitely stands out from the other Thai restaurants in the area. There is no singer singing oldies on stage, the place is not decorated with golden elephants, they don't have Singha or Chang beer on the beverage list, and Pad Thai is not the first item on the menu. I had the drumstick noodle soup and it sounded and looked simple, but the drumstick was braised and the meat was very tender and flavorful. I could easily peel the meat off the bone with my chopsticks. I'm not sure what the ingredients of the brown broth are but it looked like the pho broth but did not taste like it. However, it was not spicy so I decided to add the red chili pepper powder and the green preserved pepper to the noodle soup. It became VERY spicy and I could not stop sweating as I was eating! Definitely adds flavor to the soup and noodle. The prices are cheap - $3.50 for a small bowl noodle and $6 for a medium bowl and noodle and rice plates range from $6 - $8. The menu looks like it was hand written and you can ask them for the pictures if you want to know what you are ordering. The place is great for a quick lunch or late night dinner (I think they're opened till 11pm) There are many interesting items on the menu, such as pork blood and crispy pork, and I'm definitely going back to try more.
(4)Ross W.
Don't expect much service or décor, but the food is reliable, good and reasonably priced. I especially enjoy the dry version of Yen Ta Fo. Sometimes you have to wait a while for the food, and depending on the dish, the portion can be on the lighter side, but I still come here when I feel like Thai food and don't want to drive far.
(4)Daniel H.
Average Thai food with horrible service. Can't speak English. Tried to overcharge us $10. They argued back and said it was right. We had to show them what we ordered. They first claimed that the extra egg made our check cost $10 more. That is an expensive egg! Then, after going back and forth, they relented and apologized. Had to get my own water. Food prices are a little high for what you get. Not going back.

I had went here many months ago and this was my second time. The menu changed and the decor changed a little as well. Prices (As you might expect) went up just a little more but they also added a lot more dishes than they had before. I had the Hoy-ka noodles yet again and yet again they were delicious. It's not the largest bowl of noodles there are but there's a ton of flavor in it. I went my sister and she has a allergy to fish. A lot of the dishes have fish in it so we always have to be very careful with what we order. Places that are very set in their ways won't change or substitute ingredients even if there are allergies. I told her that even if she ordered it without fish, they would put fish in it. She ordered the Hoy-ka noodles with pork and it clearly says on the menu that there is no fish. It's not listed and she asked the waitress to be sure not to add fish because of her allergy. Sure enough her noodles came with pieces of fish cake and fish balls. We had to send it back and she switched her order to a rice dish. They wanted to charge us for 3 dishes even though we specifically wanted no fish. Anyway I figured there would be an issue but nonetheless, great food.
(3)Kate T.
Foods were ok, but I did notice that the quality of foods were different every time that I went there. The foods would depend on the chef who cooked that dishes. If you are lucky, you would get the good quality of food. Price was good. Service was ok.

I'm in love with this restaurant! I've tried their Hoy-ka noodle, Thai boat noodle, Drunken noodle, Thai papaya salad, and their crispy pork. I love them all! Especially their crispy pork, it tasted sooooo good with the noodles...Mmmmm... *drools*. I'm so happy that I've found such a good Thai noodle place without having to drive all the way to Hollywood. Thanks Yelp! :)

My cousins have been raving about this place. So, since it was dad's birthday, we decided to go give it a try. Going in thinking it was a family-style restaurant, it turned out to be more like a noodle place, where everyone has their own bowl/dish. They have very minimal selections. I ordered the Western Thai Sausage (ok), pad thai (little too sweet), boast noodle (soup too sweet), Sticky rice (ok). Service was great, but I don't think I will ever go back. This place doesn't suit my taste buds.

I go here about once every 3 weeks with my mom when she doesn't feel like cooking. This location is closer to us than the one in Thai Town, which is more convenient for us. It's pretty good for cheap Thai noodles (you can order a small size on select noodles for $3.50 or order a large for $5.00). Their drinks are relatively inexpensive too. I'm Thai and I usually order the medium spicy when they ask, which is pretty standard for me. But if you're not used to the spiciness, I suggest getting mild. I tried their hot spicy one once and while it wasn't the spiciest I've had, it was spicy enough for my nose to start running! Try their Hoy-Ka noodles with pork! My favorite and I always get it. Their rice dishes aren't bad either. Not a fancy restaurant but I'm definitely coming back.

I never venture out to Monterey park. I had a semi casual meeting so it was in between our respective locations. I got te Papaya salad because I don't really ever know what to get from a Thai menu an I'm starting to realize Thai just might not be for me. I was asked how spicy I wanted it... Um, I needed it very very very mild because I'm not used to intense loads of spice. The waitress said she'd make it as least spicy as possible. Looks like their very little spicy is equivalent for a medium/hot because all those I was suffering, I'm sure it could have been spicier. With that being said, I didn't really get to enjoy my meal much, as the spice was too distracting. I did, however, enjoy the Thai tea, which was delicious and sweet! Someone who is into Thai food and spice would have enjoyed this place a lot more - they seemed to have quite the variety of options. It wasn't crowded, service was quick, they have a parking lot, and even restrooms too!

Looking at all the good reviews, I had decide to order take out. So this is for there take out. Seriously people, I had better thai food. I had order the pad thai, koyka thick noodles, fried pork and drunken noodles.. Yes, I was hungry... but still the food tastes like whatever. No favor really. Maybe it might taste better eating at the restaurant or if I had ordered it medium hot. Maybe some people just like the burn part of it... the excitement of blowing your nose into a few napkins...and they think it taste so good because of it.. well, I sure don't.

i was visiting los angeles in august with my girlfriend, who happens to be thai, and we came across this place. we walked inside and were amazed by the decor. cool paintings on the wall and the wait staff had colorful uniforms. my girlfriend was talking to this one waitress about god knows what for a couple minutes. finally we ordered some food. i got the pad see eew & my girl got the meat ball noodle soup. The food came out reasonably fast and it was really tasty. our waitress was really nice too. she kept me in the conversation while my girl got carried away talking in that beautiful language of theirs. when the check finally came, the price was good & made me want to order another round. i left a good tip because my girl had the brightest smile on her face at the end of the meal, along with some food stuck in her teeth. i didn't tell her though :]

Cheap and inexpensive but small portion. HOWEVER FOOD taste great. thai boat noodles here kicks noodle world's butt. HOWEVER the portions at noodleworld is a lot bigger then hoy-ka. I feel that hoy-ka is more authentic and is a hole in the walll place because you'd probably miss it when driving on garfield but it really is a gem. great food. cheap prices. ok service. what more can you ask for in SGV.

First time ordering from this restaurant & I've gotta say it was especially delicious! Nice big portion, very fresh, quality ingredients, & delivered quite quickly. :) I'd certainly recommend this restaurant to others.

Very clean and the food brought back memories. Great Tom Yum!

Quaint little Thai restaurant in a small strip mall. Parking for dinner was easy. The food was great. I had a delicious thai sausage appetizer followed by a solid crispy pork ka pow over rice with a fried egg. The own let down was that we asked for "thai spicy" and the food wasn't nearly that. But we asked and received a plate of fresh chilies. Also, don't forget to ask for the fish sauce to dip in. Prices were very reasonable.

hole in the wall authentic thai food. the noodles are awesome, full flavor and big bang for your buck. my bf's fave is the pad see ew which is really tasty. i really enjoy the boat noodle. if you do decide to try a rice dish, just be warned that there is WAY MORE RICE then there will be meat. overall, it's a really good place to grub on some full flavor food. and if you think you are a spicy eater like me, you might get yourself in a lot of trouble at this restaurant, cause if you say "REALLY SPICY" they don't mess around. you will be asking for water and you will be crying. = )

yummmy THAI TEA! bomb thai boat noodle, medium spicy, with THICK NOODLES decent price! very chill!

Wow... this Thai restaurant blows all other Thai restaurants out of the water in SGV like Banana Bay, Coconut Bay, and Coconut Station. The boat noodles here are BOMB! It is so flavorful and a little on the thick side because they add in pig's blood. Its sweet and salty and spicy (medium) at the same time and the small bowl is full of beef, liver, bean sprouts, chinese broccoli, fish ball, and a choice of noodles (fat noodles, vermicelli, or super thin rice noodles) for $3.50 it will definitely appease your stomach. The side order of crispy pork for $2 is killer (literally). It's basically deep fried side pork which is so delicious. All the other dishes are not bad, had the Basil and Chicken, Pad Thai, Pad See Ewe, and their special Rad Na (full of chicken pieces, and fat noodles with a creamy sauce). This place is closed on Mondays but open till 11:00 PM on the rest of the days.

I've been here 3 or 4 times. it is one of the best Thai places in LA. The chicken laab, pad thai, hoy-kay noodle all have authentic spicy thai taste to them. I haven't been there in a few months and need to take a trip back soon.

Perfect place to get a great authentic thai food and super cheap! I was expecting a sketchy place because of the prices of the food, but this place is actually a decent restaurant and it also seems to be very clean. They also have a "A" as a grade, which is often hard to find in asian restaurants. I ordered the Hoy-KA noodles for only $3.50, and their Thai Tea for a $1.50! Cant beat that! Overall, this place is clean, yummy, very affordable, and the service is great!

HORRIBLE. Our "crispy pork" was rock hard, our Thai tea tasted like water with food coloring, and the Pad Thai was too sweet and a little on the cold side. Their curry was pretty okay, i've had better. I would not come here again though.

This is easily my favorite place to ever get any noodle dishes. I have never been so blown away by any soup dish like I have been at this one. The Thai Boat Noodles had an amazing amount of flavor to it both in its broth and noodles. The thing that is the most amazing is that its incredibly cheap too. If you love spicy food, this is the place to go! Even if you don't, they have dishes that are not spicy as well, so its for everyone!

Love it to the max !!! I've revisited the restaurant many times. The Crispy Pork is exactly what is sounds like... It is crispy and delicious. I recommend the Crispy Pork Ka praw. If you love spicy just order it really spicy as in my opinion, it is not spicy at all ! The pad se ew is also not bad. The service is good too. Friendly waiters eager to serve you. Definitely must try!!! Oh and don't forget to bring cash as it is a cash only place.

Service was on point... they offered us wooden chopsticks when they overheard our conversation about the difficulty of using plastic chopsticks (i know i know... amateur.)... they filled our waters before we could say anything... they noticed we didn't touch the goma (sesame) sauce and asked if we'd like to replace it w/more ponzu sauce... they offered us pure (spice) caps... and gave us more garlic when they saw we used all of ours up.... they did all of this and then some w/o us ever having to ask. Remarkable and seriously on point! ^5

We've been here several times and I would give a 5 stars for their noodles and crispy pork with Chinese broccoli. We went yesterday and was disappointed with their clear soup boat noodle. I'm certain that their broth is different and it feels like they just recently changed their soup recipe. It used to be very flavorful and you can taste the kick from the sour flavor but this time it's rather flat. I wonder if they have a new owner or chef. If you guys changed the recipe, please change it back, otherwise, I have to go to the Hoyka in Hollywood to get the noodle with rich flavor.

sets the bar pretty high for thai noodles. yeah, competition welcome... the only place that i see as a contender is ord. but hoy is much closer to where I live... this will be the new noodle craze winning

Wow, great Thai street food. The soup bowls were very cheap, tasty, and just the right amount of food.

PLEASE do not go out of business!!! If you like Thai Food come here! Awesome home style Thai cooking without the crowd. You are not going to get the fake Buddha decor but you will get authentic Thai food in SGV. I brought a friend who grew up in Thailand and he said this is as authentic as it gets.

been coming here for the past 2 weeks, i will be a regular for sure! the pad see ew, pad thai are great!! going to try something different every week!! portions are decent size and great price
(5)Tutu M.
I went there on tuesday the food was terrible, the BBQ duck smelled like it was frozen for month, comparing to the other I went, it was better ! And the other noticeable , the portion was smaller too.

Went to this new Thai food restaurant for lunch on 3/26/11 with my Mom. Ordered Thai iced coffee, papaya salad, Pad Thai, and Seafood rice noodle soup. Thai coffee was pretty lame which was too watery. Pad Thai and seafood noodle soup were not impressed, but papaya salad was pretty good with very spicy sweet and sour dressing.
(3)Amy R.
The boat noodle. :-) yummy!!! The small is just perfect and papaya salad. Yummy in my tummy. :-)

Anyone who goes here should try the hoy ka noodle. It's the best i've ever had so far!!!

I came at 10:45 pm because I saw the sign open still on, but then the owner didn't greet me nicely and asked me, "why you come so late?". why??? because I just feel like eating now, duh!! I said "thank you" every time I dealt with her, but she never showed any acknowledgement in return. How rude! Just tell me that they didn't serve anymore, then I'd find something else rather than giving customers that attitude. It's so hard to find a polite restaurant in this area. :(

clean good food . The place look better service is faster

Spicy lovers this is the place for you! Non spicy eaters beware! The drunken noodle was absolutely delicious! Great flavors and texture. We will definitely return with mix feelings lolx. Brian loves spicy food but I can't eat any, so once I find a non spicy dish I like, this might just end up being our go place for thai food ^~^ The thing that saddens me is that we came at 6:30pm and the place was absolutely empty :t this place definitely deserves more recognition

This place is seriously my go to spot for LAO and THAI food! Went yesterday for the Thai Boat Beef Noodle soup. It was absolutely DELISH! Was so good that i order for delivery today and the food was ON POINT! I'm from Fresno so i miss and have cravings for LAOS food! I am so glad that there's a restuarant near by. Will definetly come back for some more! If y'all have never tried LAOS food, I suggested that you should try this place out. The location wasn't so hard to fine. Service was cool, Food is DELICIOUS. Over all everything was great!
